My partner and I did an inspection at Cleo's to see if it would be the right environment for our cats for a two week stay. From the moment the door was opened and we stepped inside I couldn't wait to get out of the place! It absolutely reeked of cat pee and once we walked in we could see why. ALL of the doors to every cage were open and ALL of the cats were wondering around free to do as they pleased - obviously spraying as they went. Cats were coming in and out of other cat's cages! Some cats were perched up high to get away from other cats and one particular little Burmese was hiding behind a small dog kennel scarred out of it's mind - I feel truly sorry for the owner of that poor little cat as they would have no idea that their baby was going through hell. The owner assured us that there was no fighting among the cats and that they all got along wonderfully - which was perfectly timed with another hiss from one cat to another! There is absolutely no way I would recommend this cattery to any cat lover. Unfortunately, from what the owner said it sounded like a lot of the cats were in transit through a pet transport company so the owners would have no idea that their cats were even there let alone what they were going through. We were standing among at least fifteen cats the day we went... every other cattery we've ever been to will not allow the cats to even be touched by another human - so I really don't get this at all! My partner also noted that there was a huge stack of Whiskers - some people think Whiskers is ok, but I know my two would never eat it. Nothing the owner said to us made us feel that this was a well run business (no mention of care, diet, safety or security). The owner told us she had been cleaning all morning, but the place still seemed dirty. It just felt really stressful for the cats staying there and nothing on their website mentions that the cats can roam free - a quote from the website: "Solid walls between runs make cats feel more comfortable and secure".
My cat has been a guest of Cleo's Cattery in Dural for three weeks and it seems that it has been a pleasant experience for him! While I was away, I could see pictures of him regularly posted on Cleo's Cattery Facebook page, which was nice, and upon my return, my cat looked healthy and well-fed. Update: I have used Cleo's Cattery again, but I didn't feel the service was as good as the previous time. The person who was going to pick up my cat arrived 20 minutes late, did not apologise for being late but still charged me for the full amount.
