I normally use this surgery's sister practice in Bardon but my little man (cranky-old-man-cat called charlie) needed an xray because he had eaten a shoe lace that was stuck, unravelling and causing him a lot of abdominal pain. After a full and inclusive consultation by my vet, I took him to this practice for what I believed was the x-ray only, preferably without sedation then advice on passive treatment if viable, or palliation and euthanasia if his internal damage was too much. The 2nd question I was asked by the nurse after walking into the waiting room - not the treatment room - was if I wanted to be called if Charlie was to be euthanaised. I was then told that "you can't to wait for him because this can take a couple of hours"...not suggested, or recommended, even after I said I was happy to wait, I was again told that that wasn't possible and I should go and have a cup of coffee. Then I met the vet... Who didn't intorduce himself, didn't tell me what his intentions were for charlie - I still thought xrays and advice +/- sedation, and told me to go and have a cup of coffee or go home even after I told him I was happy to wait. Charlie was then taken through a back door, without me or any consideration of me or my involvement or wishes to be involved in planning his care, where I heard him scream a short while later. The vet returned and told me he had managed to get a bit more string out of him, but he would need an anaesthetic to try to pull the rest out, or to xray him. That. string. was. STUCK so where the 'bit more' came from scares me too much to think about. He performed a procedure on my cat without my consent or any consideration for what I wanted for him. He failed to conduct his own consultation on Charlie. He spoke in a condescending manner, he failed to include me in any part f the planning or execution of the care required by my cat. At this point I went outside to find another vet to care for my cat, and ended up calling my vet for reassurance about the skill of this vet, and to let them know about my experience in the 5 or 10 short minutes I had been there. Inevitably I became upset (I'm a crier so it was messy, but I was outside the surgery by this time), and the very next thing that happens is my partner and cat walk out of the clinic, because the vet refused to treat him because I had made a complaint...the secretary at my clinic is this vet's wife and I was still on the phone to her. She then called me a liar, refusing to believe that the nurse had asked me about being called if charlie needed to be euthanised, and started saying her husband was a wonderful vet, so I hung up. When I tried to provide him feedback about my experience at his surgery, and why I was so upset, he said "I don't want your feed back" and ushered me out the door. I have made a formal complaint to his registration body.
Ron is an exceptionally nice Vet to deal with. He has a very gentle manner and seems very competent. Unfortunately I probably wouldn't recommend him for birds. My bird was administered a worming medication at this vet practice and she started to bleed internally, and died in pain 2 days later. I later learned that she was overdosed by around 2 X for her weight.
Have been going to Ron for help with our cats and dogs for years and he and his team are always wonderful to deal with. He truly cares about animals and tells you exactly what you need to know. Am extremely happy we have somewhere to take our loved pets
Terrible Vet. Never have I been lied to so often. Rec you try any other vet. Ron you have no integrity!
