I have been taking my budgies to Dr. Phil at the Burwood Bird Vet for quite some time now, recently he removed a Tumor off my bird's wing. The Tumor was quite large and he managed to successfully remove part of the wing and the Tumor saving his life. He also amputated my 12 year old Budgie's broken leg which gave him a longer and brilliant quality of life. I highly recommend these Avian vets to people they are fantastic and the birds welfare is always in their best interest.

Obviously from all the reviews they should stick with being more of a cat and dog vet and definitely not an avian vet. I had reluctantly resorted to going to this avian hospital from the limited number of actual qualified avian vets available in Melbourne and was unfortunately very disappointed after reading all the positive reviews before going. Firstly, I have spent nearly $1000 in total at this hospital for my pet birds on the account of only a few visits, in which in the end, every bird that I had the vet see there, passed away. Not only that, upon arrival, I was greeted by Dr. Phill who was rude, arrogant and lacked sympathy for our situation. After being prescribed various medication, I was later told that he did not know what the illness was, or whether the medication would help, only being advised that I would have to come in again if there's no improvement and yet spend another $300 on ANOTHER appointment. He said that if I wanted to know what was wrong with my bird and if I wanted him to find a cure for the illness, he would need do a procedure on my bird for an additional $800 without confirming that he would even be able to identify the sickness still. Sorry, is this man qualified? After the appointment, I realised I was charged more than $300 from an appointment that told me what I already knew, that my bird was suffering from an unknown illness, and Dr Phill did not know how to 'fix' that. I was given medication that would not work, or at the very least 'temporarily' relieve my avian of pain. I didn't expect miracle workers, but considering the qualifications, I expected they were able to identify to some extent the nature of the illness. I also felt that the importance of money overrode their need to provide a peace of mind for their patients. Next time, I will be going to the avian vet in Scoresby, knowing at the very least, their vets know what they are doing.

We were referred to Dr. Phil by our local vet when our cockatiel Pablo fell ill. I have no doubt that the reason he is still with us is because of the specialised treatment and care he received. He was extremely unwell, and Dr. Phil and the clinic staff went above and beyond in diagnosing and treating him. I will never take Pablo anywhere else. Thoroughly recommended! I couldn't disagree more with Robin's complaints below. We found the price to be reasonable, and the staff to be friendly and extremely caring. Dr Phil requested frequent updates on Pablo's health over the weekend, which we found to be very reassuring.

I recommend this bird clinic as I have known Dr Phil for many years and have always taken my pets there and continue to do so even though I have moved to the other side of Melbourne. One thing I appreciate is that Dr. Phil not only cares about physical health but also the birds’ mental health and has even enlightened me on how to set up a perfect home environment, provide a healthy parrot diet, and today gave me a lesson on how to clip feathers. The bubbly friendly staff and professional service make the long trip there well worth the drive.
