I came in as an emergency on a Wednesday night to put my cat to sleep as she was terminally ill with cancer and her condition declined rapidly. I would like to thank the staff that were rostered on for their understanding and compassion towards my cat and myself. The vet Deb was wonderful, compassionate, understanding and also very professional. She understood my needs and wishes in this trying time and for that I thank her. If I ever have to use a pet emergency again and am living within the vicinity of your practice, I'll definitely be utilising your practice again and will be recommending it.
Hi Chris I thought you might like an update on Zebra. She has been completely sound on her front leg post surgery by you. She has been in the show ring constantly and is working her way towards becoming an Australian Champion show dog! At the moment she is taking time out to have her first litter of pups! But she will be back in the show ring soon after. Thanks for your great work getting her back in the show ring. Photos shows a very pregnant Zebra getting all the info on being a mum from her mum Fiddle. Regards Deb Kruz :)
We had a terrible time at this emergency vet. I found my dog 7am one morning with small pools of deep red blood on the floor and her bed. I was horrified and had no idea what was happening, I found the closes emergency vet to where we live on google, and rushed her to this vet. Everything was normal until the vet on call started diagnosing my dog. We always went to the emergency vet in Burwood, and they've always been adequately staffed and knowledgable about emergency situations. But on this Sunday, I had a bad feeling about the female vet we met. She gave me no confidence at all that she knew what she was talking about. She came across inexperienced, giving text book diagnosis as if she was still in a classroom, spending a long time explaining a condition that upfront she said wouldn't be what my dog had. Given it's an emergency, I felt this was a waste of time and was hanging for her to tell me what my dog could be having thats causing such blood loss. She quoted me a $3000 fee, 'given we don't know what the problem is, it could cost anything' was what I was told, and gave me the options to either start progressing with ultrasounds and X-rays or wait and see if her situation improved. I really felt her incompetence and wanted to take our dog to the other emergency vet for a second opinion. I called my husband who was on a ride that morning and he said if she's really sick just get the initial x-ray done and he will get to the centre immediately. When he got there, we got the first x-ray back and the on-call vet again went through a text book explanation of our dog's anatomy, what she saw and that the bulge she sees around her stomach could be cancer and went on for another 10 min telling us that it's rare given our dog's age, but could be a possibility. We were completely freaking out, thankfully I googled our trusty vet on my phone and realised they were actually open on Sunday at 9am which was how long this vet had wasted our time with no visible outcome but a significant vet bill. We politely thanked her for her 'opinion' and told her we will take her to our usual vet as it was open. On our exit, this vet had us continue to wait whilst they checked and re-checked the bill, all the time our dog was still in a blanket in our arms dripping with blood. The wait was too long for me, so much so that although we planned to take one car to the next vet, I just rushed out and drove on my own whilst my husband settled the bill (once they figured out how much they should charge us) The receptionist was eating, looked like she just came in, our visit was $350 for 2 hours of waiting, mostly waiting and very little vet expertise. I was bitterly disappointed not to mention furious, and apologised to my dog profusely for keeping her in that condition for that long with an EMERGENCY vet that staffed totally inexperienced people on Sunday. Thankfully, our normal vet took approximately 30 min to perform some ultrasounds, a phone call to a more senior vet on his day off with photos and diagnosis. Although it was an unusual case he's never seen before, he deduced that it could be bladder stone and suggests we come in the following day Monday with the expectation that our dog will have a surgery if her situation does not improve. Our dog went under surgery the next day and a largish bladder stone was removed which was what was causing the excretion of blood that morning. She was back to herself 24 hour later like they said she would be, and we were so thankful about our decisions not to continue with the first vet. Who know what they may have done. Needless to say, this is not an emergency vet that can be countered on for our four-legged friend's emergencies, or any medical situation for that matter - our experience was simply appalling. Word of advice to the centre, do not employe inexperienced graduates for emergency centres - you are doing disservice to people's pets.
The treatment I have received after taking my much loved dog to this emergency pet centre has been horrific! I went there after hours when I discovered an odd lump on my dog's head. We were greeted by one of the vet nurses who was very nice. She had a proper look at the lump and assured me there wasn't anything to worry about and there will be no charge. She followed by saying if I would like a consultation with a vet it would be $165. I was happy with the initial assessment and said no to the consultation. However, she somehow took this as yes I wanted a consultation. A few minutes later we were greeted by a woman (who I assumed was another vet nurse as I had said no to the consultation) who took us into a room, asked me a few questions about my dogs health and listened to her heart with a stethoscope. I was in the room for no more than 2 minutes when she said we could go. I left happy and satisfied that there was nothing to worry about with my dog and that there was no charge as I didnt have a consultation. THREE days later, I received a phone call of which I couldn't answer at the time because I was at work. A voice message was left on my phone outlining that $165 was owed for the consultation I received for my dog. I called back immediately to resolve the matter as I would never not pay for something! This is when the harassment began. I spoke to one person of which I explained the situation and that I did NOT want a consultation, she passed me on to someone. I then proceeded to speak to someone else who passed me on to the vet nurse who initially assessed my dog on the night. She admitted to the fact that she misunderstood me but proceeded to tell me that I still owed $165. I was stern and said that I felt I shouldn't pay for something I didn't want, didn't receive and had said no to. This is when I was handballed for the 4th time, this time over to the vet who "examined" my dog. This vet was very rude to me and had a very threatening tone. I stated that I felt like I wasn't in a consultation because all that was done to my dog was listening to her chest and asking a few questions.. how is that $165 worth??? I was told that I will receive a call from the clinic owner the following day to resolve the matter. I hung up the phone very upset and shaken feeling threatened and intimidated. I never received a phone call from the vet owner, just another voicemail from the rude vet who demanded for the $165 having "spoken to the owner." I did not call back. The next day I got another message this time explaining that If i do not pay the fee she will send the debt collectors on me. This of course upset me and I felt that the situation had spiralled out of control over a simple misunderstanding. I asked my dad for advice who told me I was being harassed and that he will take this further. He spoke to the same vet who told him he will get a call from the owner the following day. AGAIN, no call from the owner just a reply from the vet stating we still had to pay. This business clearly doesn't care about your animal, they are just money driven. They will say or do anything to get your money, even if that means threatening debt collectors and calling you everyday! It's safe to say that I will never go back there, and it seems that many other reviews are very similar. I'm not one to write reviews however my experience at this vet was so poor I feel I should warn others.
Dr. Chris Preston and Staff are really amazing! I took my 9yr old rottie in to Chris after he got hit by 3 cars and both his hips had come out his socket and needed major surgery. He spent time with me to explain everything and go through all my options with me. I could not believe how he had my dog back on his feet and walking a few days later. He is really a miracle worker. When i took him back 2 weeks later to get his stitches out and have a checkup, to see the look on Chris's face and how impressed he was with his recovery just made this whole experience a lot better..I could never thank him enough on what an amazing job he had done on my very beloved dog and i can't even find the right words to say how thankful i am to him. I would definitely recommend him to anyone that wants to know where to go if they have a pet thats in need. Without their help i wouldn't have my best friend with me today, i've also learnt to really appreciate what i have now since i nearly lost him! I think Chris has a very difficult job because people come in emotionally attached which may cloud their perspective on their situation, where Chris not only has to do and think what's best for the animal but has to deal with everyone's emotions when they could be at one of their lowest points. I should know because i was one of those people until i tried to put myself in his shoes.
