gave me good info on my gf's ball python snake even though they don't deal with snakes. they directed me in the right path.
I took my dog here for an allergic reaction and hives... and the assistants were very pleasant, and came over and pet my dog and genuinely cared. The vet, however, was very different, I do know know her name, but she was definately affraid of dogs. She hovered her hand over my scared dogs head, and backed away when he turned his head as if everytime he was going to bite her... to him it looked like she was going to play... and to be honest she never let him smell her to see what she was about anyways, so curiosity was a part of it too. She backed away from him each time he moved, like at all. I mentioned that he would not bite her, but she was making him anxious by her movements. When it came time to have a shot, I knew he may bite, cause now hes being restrained, and mentioned that he may do so, so she muzzled him, and 3 of us struggled ( I had to ask if an assistant could help as well cause I couldnt hold him alone) to get the injection in him. Afterwards, she offered no comfort to him, as it was very traumatic, and he freaked out several times and the muzzle came off once... so it was a process... however right after he was so exhausted that lay on the floor, quiet and tired. She never walked to him, to pat him and reassure my poor stressed out dog. Our regular vet has had to deal with his scared behaviour in their office, and she always takes the extra minute to make sure he is mentally ok after being in her office. Something simple like "Good boy" and a pat on the head or tummy rub goes a long ways for a stressed out dog. I should mention he is 7 months old, not yet a dog. I will never go back here.
My cat got sick over the weekend and I ended up taking him in on the Saturday night. I got to see Dr. Randy Malhotra straight away and he was very good at diagnosing and explaining the procedures and also listening and answering our questions and concerns. My cat recovered well overnight and I was able to pick him up the next way. Very friendly and professional service.
My dog has been recovering from an ear surgery back in May. Recently, she has been taking some medications and injections to clear up a sore that has developed over the area where she had the stiches. Got home from work after 9:00pm and she vomited, kept falling down, had laboured breathing and wouldn't eat anything. (her food was still in her dish from the morning). I went to Mainland Animal and the staff were very accommodating and took detailed notes of everything I noticed that made me worried. The doctor was a nice man who checked all her vitals. I really had peace of mind after going to Mainland Animal Emergency and was relieved they were open to take my dog to. The one setback was the cost of the visit, $59. I thought that was rather steep (considering my dog's surgery bill was already very high). And, the doctor more or less implied he had to run some tests and showed me an invoice that was over $200. I walked away just paying the $59 and took my dog to her usual vet the next day. No way was I about to fork out $200 on some tests!
WOW!!! Cannot believe this place...I have never been more shell shocked as I was at this clinic.I brought a 20 year old cat in to be euthenised as she was very ill.Not bad enough that our family pet was dying in front of my eyes but then these gouging theives wanted well over 300.00 to do so! I was floored and left the clinic. I started to cry watching my animal suffer as I called Pet care in Newton who said that this was ridiculous and they would do it for 96.00. I will NEVER use this clinic again and cannot believe they stay in business with this kind of over charging.Nothing like taking advantage of people when they are down! Shame on you Mainland Clinic!
