Can't say enough good things; our 8-wk old pom puppy was in a coma when we brought him in during very busy late-night hours on a long weekend. He was immediately taken from us and put on an IV. Five days later, he is coming home and is alive because of their immediate attention, care and proper diagnosis.
Last night i took my cat to this clinic because he was dragging his bum the night before (something he has never done). He has always been very well tempered and easy to deal with at the vet. I have never had a bad vet experience with him. However, i felt very uncomfortable watching how the vet here handled him yesterday. She seemed very rough and lacked empathy. She dragged him out of his carrier by the scruff of his neck, which right away made him upset. She spent more time fighting with him it seemed. If she was just a little patient and gentile like every other vet i've been to, he would have been in and out. Then she said she was taking him to the examination room. I wanted to come with him because i knew he would be more at ease with me there holding him for her. She insisted "no" and took him into another room. I then heard my cat make a screaming wail i have never heard him make before. She came back out and said she needs to sedate him to do the examination because he wont even let her touch his tail... I know my cat did not make a noise like that just from his tail being touched. I told her to let me try holding him. She tried to insist about the sedation but i assured her he would be better with me present. He was brought back to me, and i held him, but then she said as if to prove me wrong "See! Look!" She grabbed his tail vigorously and yanked it back... So of course he cried out!!! But he was better in my arms and she was able to insert her instrument into his bum. She said his anal gland looked like it was impacted and he was scheduled for a sedated procedure the next day. The way she handled him left a bad feeling. So I canceled and took him to another clinic for a second opinion, and guess what? He was fine! No procedure or sedation necessary! Dishonest, no empathy, willing to use animals for profit gain. Sickening.
Good Morning, I am writing in regards to an incident that happened yesterday, June 30, 2013. My dog has diabetes and yesterday morning when I went to get his insulin from the fridge, it was missing. I spent a good hour looking for it and could not find it. I thought the best thing to do would be to call the Pembina Emergency Animal Hospital and get a new vial. I called the hospital and was told that they could not sell me any insulin unless I had the label or a prescription. Of course, I did not have either. I was extremely distraught with the idea of my pet going 2 days without insulin. I spent more time trying to find the missing vial to no avail. I spoke to a friend of mine who is a pharmacist and she told me that I could go to any pharmacy without a prescription and get human insulin, but of course they do not sell caninsulin and it would be difficult to switch my dog at this point. Three hours after calling the first time and feeling extremely distraught and called the hospital back, telling them, I would bring my dog there and they could examine him, do blood work and whatever they needed to do in order for me to get some insulin for him. I told them I had the blood test results that show that he has diabetes, as well as receipts showing that I had bought insulin before. Finally, they agreed to sell me some insulin. But it should not have been so difficult. Can someone please tell me why humans are allowed access to live saving insulin at any pharmacy without a prescription and yet the same rules don’t apply to dogs or other pets? That dog owners who somehow find that they don’t have insulin on a long weekend cannot get any in the whole city of Winnipeg? This makes no sense at all and needs to be looked into. I should not have had to go through this torment in order to get a vial of insulin for my dog. Christina
