Took my puppy there when his eye swelled up. Explained that he had been staying with 2 other dogs that caught an eye infection but the vet kept insisting it was Cherry Eye and would require an $800 operation and that we should neuter him at the same time. This was before properly examining him and after I explained he would be used for breeding. Finally she checked him and conceded that he could have an infection but said she was still sure it was Cherry Eye and the operation was needed, then offered a discount on the operation. Eventually she gave me some antibiotic drops and the infection is now gone. All this cost me over $150 which is very steep for the service provided just for them to try and rip me off for around $1000 and cut open my puppy when it isn't needed!!!! She kept calling my dog by the wrong breed too. Won't be going there again and would recommend others to be cautious about going there.

While a seemingly capable veterinarian, the customer service at this place leaves a lot to be desired. It's important to me that I get to know the vet working with my dog, so being presented with different vets when I brought my pet in was a bit unnerving. I'm no vet myself, but I was concerned enough to seek a second opinion on my dog's post - surgery stitches, and it looked awful. The reception staff at Herongate Animal Hospital in Ajax is incompetent, they book appointments without telling you, or fail to notify you when you have an upcoming appointment, resulting in nasty attitudes, or silence, from all staff when you try and discuss the matter. If you have a choice, choose someplace else.

As a loving pet owner, my experience at Herongate was unprofessional, unreliable and the owner/vet, Dr. Strahl-Bissett, is unstable. The owner and "only" attending vet, Dr. Strahl-Bissett is unavailable for your pets during their vital surgeries. Dr. Strahl-Bissett has another unknown vet complete surgeries. The receptionist makes appointments without consent then invoices for cancellation fees. When asked about this they could not provide sufficient rationality behind their cause. I highly recommend taking your loved one somewhere else and avoid Herongate Animal Hospital. In addition, the grooming service in the basement should be avoided as well. The groomers were tardy and my pet had an eye infection for 3 days.
