I have been a loyal client going to Dr. Sherkey for my cats for 25 years where he started his company in the medi-trust plaza just south on Bayview. Dr. Sherkey expanded his practice in a new location just a few blocks north and I was very happy that he now had a groomer on the premises. I have been taking my 5 year old cat and 8 year old cat to Pooch Purrfection for at least 5 years. One of my cats is persian, so because she gets stressed during the grooming process, it has been recommended that I sedate her. Joanne, the previous groomer which now operates her own business called Pet Chateau, was wonderful. Because I was not too keen on having my cat sedated every 6 months, I would bring her in more frequently (every 3 months) and she would do as much as she could to unmat her. I would sedate her maybe every 9 months and then she would get completely shaved. Joanne left and the current groomer called Kelsey Thompson who is a registered veterinary Technician took over the grooming practice still under the same company called Pooch Purrfection. She came to realize that my 5 year old persian was not an easy moneymaker. I explained that I didn't want my cat sedated everytime she needed a brushing there are risks with sedation and she wasn't unbearably matted that she needed to "go under" every time. About a month ago, my cat went in for an unsedated brushing and came out with an infection on her paw caused by 2 missing nails, which happened while under her care. She explained she was aggressive and not even her assistant could control the cat. My cat's paw was bandaged up and had to be given antibiotics and every second day I had to bring her in to get her bandage changed and puss cleaned. Dr. Sherkey then tried to tell me that I will be charged for the medication they were giving my cat. I refused outright to pay anything when the mistake was all Kelsey's. She should have known when to stop, and in fact it proved to me how inexperienced she really was. Well, I never ended up paying a cent for her mistake. And so, I decided I will agree with Dr. Sherkey that from now on my cat be sedated for the grooming which would be once a year or once every 9 months. A few weeks ago, I booked my cat for a grooming. I had to meet with Dr. Sherkey to get her yearly vaccine otherwise the groomer will not groom her. OK fine, so over $100 dollars later my cat is ready for her sedated grooming appointment the following week. I get a phone call one day later from Kelsey saying "I am not willing to groom your cat any more". I was furious, I called Dr. Sherkey I told him I'm agreeing to sedation, what is the reason for not wanting to groom my cat. He told me he had no power to do anything. She runs her own business and she can refuse. Really? It seems to me that Pooch Purrfection is the same company that Joanne the previous groomer worked for. Therefore, was it really her own business? I don't think so. I believe Dr. Sherkey lied to me and that infact it is another company HE opened. Can anyone refuse work from their bosses? I certainly can't. And, he nicely took my $100 dollars for the vaccines that happened ONE DAY BEFORE. I was a loyal client for 25 years, this groomer KELSEY THOMPSON has been there since February and she could not explain to me WHY she was refusing to groom my cat UNDER SEDATION under HER TERMS AND CONDITIONS which I was agreeing to. I told Dr. Sherkey how disappointed I was at the fact that he"can do nothing". Obviously my cats, my loyalty meant nothing to him. Under Joanne, she never refused to groom my cat no matter how difficult the situation was. Here is a young, inexperienced groomer who actually got away with losing business. I am happy to say that I now bring my cats to Tower Hill Animal Hospital under the care of Dr. Pitrowski, who used to work at Bayview Hill and knows my cats very well. He is wonderful. And, I take my cats to Joanne's new grooming practice called Pet Chateau in R.Hill. So much for loyalty!
I starting going to this vet clinic 4 years ago. I started off really loving it there, however the last 1.5 years I feel like they're just out to get your money! Last year they gave my cat a 3 year rabies shot, and proceeded to give him a 1 year rabies shot this year, stating that the 3 year shot really only lasts 1-2 years in cats. It was the same vet, so why would he give the 3 year shot in the first place? Their prices have also gone up. A bag of food use to cost around $50, and is now up to $70. Just not sure how much I can trust them anymore.
I brought my cat in when he stopped eating on a Sunday of a long weekend. My regular vet was closed and they are located only a few minutes from my home. Money was an issue for me and I didn't have Pet Insurance. They offered me options and alternatives. I was very grateful. My cat had many visits before we had to finally put him to sleep due to a mass in his abdomen. All the Dr's were briefed on my cat's history in case he came in. I was refered to a specialist at one point and one of the Dr's met me there on her day off. Making the decision to put my cat to sleep was very difficult but the staff at Bayview Hill were very supportive and gave us as much time as we needed. I miss my cat dearly but I know that I did everything I could in the end. I do have another cat and I will be changing to this Vet from now on.
