We took our new kitten there a couple of weeks ago and I was disgusted by the money hungry mentality of Dr. Kent. We even caught him in a lie. He called and advised us that a round of medication for our cat hadn't worked and she had tested positive again for a bad bacteria. I told him I would seek another opinion at a new vet, as I was unhappy with their services. He then blamed his staff (which were non-existent sometimes I went in, just him running everything - very disorganized). 3 days later a vet tech called and said she wasn't sure if I had been given the results of the test and that it came back negative, that she didn't have the bad bacteria. So it is clear that all Dr. Kent was doing was trying to get more money off us from check ups and medicine that she didn't even need. STAY AWAY!

Dr. Kent has been veterinarian to 5 of my birds over the past 21 years. I have found him to be highly knowledgable of animal illnesses and behaviour (dog, cat and exotics). He has also been understanding of my financial limitations enough to teach me how to do procedures at home saving me hospitalization costs. Very recently he has also allowed me to mix my own medications at home to minimize the number of trips I have to make to the clinic due to the fact that the lifetime medication my Alexandrine is taking has a low shelf life of only 1 month. Instead of having to go to the clinic every month, I now go every 6 months which is necessary anyway to monitor her chronic illness. Dr Kent has an amazing gift with my birds and is the only person who could comfortable handle one of my male cockatiels (now deceased) who hated to be touched and normally would defend himself aggressively. The wait times can be long, but quality service is worth waiting for. I highly recommend King West Vets.

Stay away from these guys. It's all about money at this place. On top of that, the guy is just not knowledgable. He suggested unnecessary expensive procedures without any guarantees that they would make a difference on my cat's health. Had to do my own research and get him to write a prescription for a blood thinner which he should have had suggested off the bat. Next time I saw him, without asking how my cat was doing, he just reminded me that I owed him money for the prescription he wrote... Worst vet ever...stay away

I started going to King West when they first opened around 2006. Dr Ackerman is a fantastic vet, and he was careful to avoid unnecessary testing and expenses - respected my wallet at the time. The only issue at the time was waiting an hour at least every time for my appointment, but that is because he really takes his time. I feel as if everything has changed though since. Last few times, I felt I was being pushed onto his new partner, Dr. Julian. Although also a great vet, I preferred to stick with Dr Ackerman and didn't appreciate being pawned off to his partner when I had a very sick pet. It also seems like respecting people's wallets has gone out the window. I paid $1300 my last time I was there, and found out that some of that was unnecessary when I requested a copy of the actual notes on my cat's stay after the fact (the justification for an extra day's stay didn't apply based on the notes). Plus, I have no interest in hearing about a vet's investments when I'm about to get billed $1300. I then also got a quote for an additional $2500 for a surgery. Well that honestly infuriated me, as from experience, I knew it was highway robbery. I got a few more quotes, and paid $500 for the same procedures elsewhere downtown. This is the result of an unregulated industry such as veterinary medicine. Vets can charge whatever they want. so you can have such huge price variances. And when vets forget why they are in the business, the gouging begins.

I'm *very* impressed with the staff at King West Vets. Professional, intelligent, and compassionate. Unlike other clinics that I've been to, KWV has put my pet ahead of their business; which is quite rare, I truly appreciate that. Above all else I can take great comfort knowing that my little buddy is receiving the best attention from highly skilled staff who really, really care!
