I'm a fan. Dr. Mitelman has been good with my dog's care over the years. They're definitely pricey, but no more so than other vets in Toronto. The level of care is exceptional and I love that they're a hospital so open for emergencies. My dog actually gets excited when he goes there - he associates it with positive things: Love, treats, attention, and considering he's gone in under some tough circumstances, I think it says a lot that he's a happy camper on both arrival and departure. It's a good team, a good local business, and one that I would recommend. Also, (I know Dr. Mitelman doesn't like to talk about it) but when CBC's Marketplace did that exposé on vets who overcharge last summer, these guys were among the few Toronto vets who were honest and reasonable in terms of what the marketplace dog needed. I can see that there's a lot of bad reviews here, but seriously, when the CBC goes in with a hidden camera and the vet comes out totally honest and reasonable, I think there's some good and objective credibility there and it certainly made me feel good about having taken my dog Bailey to them for the past eight years.
The clinic charged +$2000 in bills for my dog who died 20 min after being at the clinic. The experience I had at this clinic was the worst I ever experienced over the 12 years I had my dog. The whole time it felt like it was about the money. All the doctor wanted me to do was agree to pay, not concerned about my dog at all. The admin did NOT take my phone correctly and DIDN’T CALL ME when my dog passed away. I had to here it from someone else. We have been following up with the clinic to find out when his cremated remains would be available to pick up. The staff assured me every time they would call me – this DIDN’T happen. It took several phone calls to find out he was sitting in someone’s office all weekend. It felt like they just treated him like an object to be forgotten and not someone’s family member. This ordeal fathoms me as to how careless someone can be, it would be unthinkable to tell a mother her child has been ready to go home a few days ago but someone forgot to check and call. Then why should this be acceptable? The only words I have to say are insensitive and negligent.
This is the best animal hospital I've ever been to. It has a friendly and relaxing environment and everyone was really helpful. Dr. Jon Mitelman is the coolest vet ever. He really helped me through the hard situation I was in and went above and beyond in his services and giving me advice. You can tell he really cares about you and your pet. I brought my dog in for an emergency and have decided to keep him as my regular vet. I highly recommend Dr. Mitelman as well as the hospital.
They did everything to try to save my cat. They negotiated prices and especially the day doctor (Mitchell was it?) did everything to ensure my cat was comfortable and loved. They give a paw imprint for free when your pet dies, and they're very understanding. As much as they cost a lot, it's an emergency hospital, and the fact that they're willing to negotiate and potentially give you a lesser price to help your beloved pet is commendable. If it's an emergency, they will help you to the best of their ability.
When our regular Veterinarian could not diagnose our dog, who was in critical condition, he recommended we go to Dr. Mitelman at the Kingston Rd. Animal Hospital.. He was professional, caring and stuck to his estimate. Dr. Mitelman did his best to bring levity to our difficult situation. Honest, a man of his word he worked tirelessly to try and figure out what was wrong with our dog. He did it in the most economical way, respecting our financial restraints and not judging us for them. After our dog was sent home, he followed up with caring questions and transfer the care of our dog back to our home vet. with detailed records and diagnosis. Our dog has a rare disease and I don't believe she would be alive today without the dedicated care of the staff of the Kingston Road animal Hospital. The receptionist (s), the other VETs, and the Vet assistants always gave us all the time to process, ask questions and make decisions. I highly recommend the Kingston Road Animal Hospital and health insurance.
