I was referred there by our excellent Vet in Quyon. We have a German Shepherd puppy with a little extra tissue in her eyelid with some hair follicles that has to be removed. The Doctor was a straight shooter told me what I did and didn't need and how much it would cost in a reasonable low to high range. The quotation consult was provided at an amazing price, and he could immediately schedule the dog in for a date that was convenient to our family. I am impressed.
Our 3 month puppy had a fracture on her leg while playing on the hardwood floor (not dog-friendly), this was on Sunday, so we went to Ottawa Emergency Hospital and they applied temporary splint. We contacted the Aylmer Veterinary Hospital, and they told us that the splint was done poorly and they can do a better one. We believed them. They re-did the splint and said we need to check it in two weeks. By about that time, our little doggy completely stopped stepping on her leg that was fractured, and we contacted the Aylmer hospital again. Doctor Varney that saw us at that time said that we didn’t have to worry, that the dog was just learning how to properly walk on three legs. We removed the splint in a week and there was a big sore with no skin down to the bone, and lots of small sore that were giving blood. They cast turned out to be too tight as this was a puppy. The technicians didn’t even notice the small bruises, and sores and cuts all over her leg, so we had to return to the hospital to clean them. The hospital also lost our insurance claim forms two times, before they actually were able to fax them in three weeks. We were greeted very well, but treated very poorly in this hospital. We have chosen it based on the reviews here on Google+, but, based on our experience, I’m guessing, the majority of the reviews must be fake.
This is by far the best veterinary clinic I have ever taken my animals to. The staff are very kind and caring and also don't push unneeded tests just to make money as I've experienced in the past at other vets. In January I had to euthanize my senior dog and throughout the whole process, I was treated with such compassion and kindness. I was allowed to take my time with her before and after, and didn't feel rushed to leave at all. When I finally did leave the room, MJ, one of the ladies at the front counter embraced me with a warm, loving, motherly hug, which made me feel so special. Dr. Choquette is fabulous as well. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an amazing vet and staff! I travel from the Ottawa side. It's definitely worth it!!
When we had to put our parent's 18 year old cat Timothy to sleep, the vet there was so compassionate, and caring, it really helped! She even sent us a condolence card signed by all the staff, the card was so thoughtful, our family all cried. We really appreciated the empathy.
I don't think the reviews are fake. I am sorry you had a bad experience. Did you raise it with the staff? I have been bringing my pets to Dr. Varney and his colleagues for 25+ years and have always been happy with the practical, quality care, the warm and compassionate staff, and the reasonable prices. Good luck with your puppy!:-)
