I have two cats and both are patients at Rehm. My big fat brown tabby, Ming Ming, was diagnosed with heartworms by Dr. Fox about a year ago. He is barely 3 years old and I was devastated, but Dr. Fox was so kind and empathetic. He was very encouraging and felt like even though the situation could be fatal, he didn't believe it had to be a death sentence. I was so upset, and Dr. Fox actually gave me a hug and told me Ming Ming would pull through. He also let me work out a payment plan with him. Just a few days ago we had to rush my younger little black tuxedo cat Sushi in for emergency treatment. He had a bladder obstruction and his bladder was close to rupturing. Dr. Caroline Rehm was his vet. They met us at the back door and immediately took us into a room. The procedure she wanted to do was simply out of our price range ($800+) so I asked her what my alternatives were. She ended up catheterizing him, giving him IV fluids and antibiotics, new food and sent him home with us to observe. The word "euthanasia" did come up, which of course devastated me. She was so understanding and gentle with our little dude, plus she didn't charge us for a couple of things and she connected us to an organization who would help us cover the bills. Both of our boys are doing well now and it's thanks to Rehm. I have read some reviews here where they say there is no compassion and the staff is rude. I have seen nothing but compassion at Rehm. The front desk staff may come off as rude, but it is because they are SO EXTREMELY BUSY. I have never (except for the emergency visit) been in there when they are slow. The ONLY reason I don't give them 5 stars is because they are SO EXPENSIVE. BUT, they are consistently ranked among the best in the area, and that speaks for itself.
Unfortunately, I have only visited Rehm Animal Clinic during emergencies, and in both cases the animals had to be put down. However, I found that the facility is clean, comfortable, and well-stocked with Vet-brand animal feed. The staff is extremely pleasant and very empathetic. My last visit was an ER call at around 9 PM on a Sunday. We called ahead and the phone was answered promptly and professionally. The staff was arriving just as we came in, and we were quickly let into a room where a Veterinary Assistant asked the appropriate questions and took vitals. Considering the time, the vet was with us fairly quickly. She was very gentle and sincere when letting us know that our animal would need to be put down. In both cases, the staff was very attentive and made sure that we were able to spend the last moment's of our pet's lives with them in a quality manner. I also found that they were willing to try and work with us concerning budget, though there is only so much you can do in these circumstances. I have been very impressed with the way that we've been treated by Rehm Animal Clinic. We've even received condolence cards after the loss of our pets.
I have been doing business With Rehm Animal Clinic almost from the beginning of their practice. I come back because of the care and love that all my pets and me as a pet parent get from the doctors and staff. I would not trust any other group of Vets with any of my pets.
I could write an extensively long review explaining in detail how during after hours emergency there was a young vet who did not properly address the severity of my dog's situation and in turn it led to him dying. I can also explain how the vet technician and receptionist were both rude and did not show any compassion towards my suffering dog nor the owners. They were very pushy about how they were going to get paid and spent much time that should have been taking care of the dog... making sure I was filling out the form and swiping my credit card. It gave all three of us there the feeling that the money came before the dog. But it's a moot point because he is gone now and the best I can tell you is they definitely should and could have done more to save his life. His lacerations were large and should have been stitched or fixed somehow, not by simply wrapping dressing all around his body and telling me everything would be okay. Do your research and be VERY cautious as to what this clinic tells you and does to your dog- or ideally, go to a different emergency clinic.
My daughter is a college student and on limited funds - has two little dogs. She tries to save money every way she can. She wanted them to give her a prescription for the flea/tick/heart worm meds they take so she could purchase at 800-Petmeds. They would NOT give it to her. Not impressed. They said they couldn't back up the meds purchased somewhere else. I'm pretty sure they are made by the same company and the vet is not manufacturing it in their clinic. Also, if something happened, I feel certain they would expect the company to back up the med anyway. My daughter is going to have to find a new vet who understands her budget and will work with her.
