I was referred to Desert Veterinary Medical Specialist by Pet Smart located at 1745 W Bethany Home Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85015. The Veterinarian at Pet Smart said that the Veterinarians at Desert Veterinary Medical Specialist in Gilbert would be better able to understand the mass that was showing up on the X-Rays he had taken, he also said he thought it maybe cancer. I drove over one hour to get to Desert Veterinary Medical Specialist in Gilbert, but the Veterinarian there was not able to open the X-Ray Pet Smart had taken so she was not able to tell me what the mass was on my dog. She said that they could take another set of X-Ray's for $400+ dollars. I told her I was not going to pay to get another X-Ray done since I had just paid to get those done with Pet Smart. The Veterinarian then said I could drive back to Pet Smart and get another copy of the X-Rays and bring it back to her, I decided that's what I would do, I then schedule a follow-up appointment for later that day. While I was driving to Pet Smart to get another copy of the X-Rays I saw Integrative Veterinary Oncology office that had just opened up right down the street from my house, I thought this was god sent, I didn't want to have to drive one hour to go back to Desert Veterinary Medical Specialist and run the chance they wouldn't be able to open the X-Rays again. The problems started when I called Desert Veterinary Medical Specialist to cancel the follow-up appointment, the manager started to aggressively and rudely trying to collect $175 for the visit I had with the doctor earlier, I tried to explain to her that the Veterinarian was not able to do anything doing that visit, because she wasn't able to open the X-Ray and asked that I drive to Pet Smart to get another copy of the X-Rays, but I wanted to cancel that follow-up appointment since I had found a location closer to take my dog. She didn't care she just kept speaking to me aggressively and rudely as if all that mattered to her is collecting the money, it didn't matter that they didn't do anything to figure out what was wrong with my dog because they couldn't open the X-Rays, she just wanted the money for doing absolutely nothing. By the way the other Veterinary office I found, Dr. Betsy Hershey at Integrative Veterinary Oncology, had no issues opening up the X-rays Pet Smart had taken, they didn't try to charge me $400 for new X-Rays like Desert Veterinary Medical Specialist did. Desert Veterinary Medical Specialist have now sent the bill into collections! It's inhuman what they are doing specially because my dog has since died, they call my cell phone none-stop, home number and have sent several threatening collection letters to my house. Please stay clear of this place, they don't care one bit about your dog, all they care about is making money, even when they have done nothing for it.
