Overpriced and quite possibly dangerous for people who can't afford their recommended treatments. I took my 2.5 year old female (spayed) cat in worrying about bladder/urinary tract problems, as she had started urinating outside the box and straining to do it. After a couple weeks of antibiotics that failed to clear the problem up, they did blood tests and an x-ray. They located small stones in the bladder. They said $1500 for surgery that she would "most likely" need. We said there was no way we could afford that, after having spent nearly $600 up to this point on the diagnostics and antibiotics. So they said try a prescription diet (Hill's C/D) and more antibiotics. $100 more. A bit of research on the internet later and I determined that neither the expensive food or the expensive antibiotics would do -anything- helpful for my cat. A call to the AZ Humane Society veterinarian seconded that. $700 on useless treatments and nearly useless diagnostics (more info next paragraph). They said I should bring the cat in to them (AZHS) with her x-rays and blood tests from this clinic. The AZHS ended up having to redo the x-rays because the CD the clinic gave me had the files in useless or obtuse file types that they couldn't read at the humane society. Fortunately, as I said before, the cost was less than half what the clinic charged. A mere $100 to the clinics $400 "special care" something that also included the blood test. AZHS also said to wean my cat off the antibiotics, as they were only weakening her response to future doses she would need post-op, and it was completely useless without curing the cause of the infection. Like leaving a bullet in your body and treating with antibiotics. They recommended pain medication instead so the cat wouldn't hurt as much to urinate. My cat has since stopped urinating outside the catbox, is less lethargic, and due for a $600 surgery in a couple weeks. Total cost for this treatment and surgery at this clinic would have exceeded $2200. The AZHS (had we gone to them in the first place) would have kept us under $900. I have no doubt this is an excellent (or at least licensed) veterinarian provided you shower them with money. However, my experience has been terrible and I would recommend the AZHS or any other clinic I haven't been to for your animal's care. -Josh
I came in today with my cat who was very sick. We couldn't afford the procedure to put her down, but she passed shortly after arrival. They were very expensive, but understanding of our situation. They all came out to give their condolences, and I appreciated that a lot.
