Did a recent Mom's Club service project for the humane society on Dobbins. We were given a wonderful tour of the facility. The staff were great with our group that included several kids under 5 and all the kids loved it! The facility itself is one of the nicest I've seen, very clean and well maintained with large outdoor areas. The animals appeared very well cared for, too. The staff are hard working and passionate about what they do, despite there not being nearly enough of them. Only wish there was more funding for places like this!
I wish I could give this particular location 0 stars. The competence of the staff is deplorable. My husband and I went in this morning with the intention of adopting a dog, and when we did not find one that suited us, we looked through the little critters there instead. I fell in love with a bunny named Candy and asked to put a 3:30 hold on her to give me enough time to go to the store and get her new home set up for her. The girl taking care of everything said that 3:30 would be just fine, had us fill out some paperwork, and told us everything was set. After spending an hour at the pet store purchasing everything I needed, and another half an hour getting everything set up and ready for the bunny, I headed to this location and arrived around 3:15 to pick up Candy. When I arrived and announced who I was there for, the staff looked confused and asked if I was the 2nd hold. When I told them I was the first, they informed me my hold expired at 3:00. I informed them that the time we had established, and confirmed before we left, was 3:30. The very rude red-head behind the desk called the people who had put Candy on a 2nd hold, told them, "The first hold is here for Candy, and is upset that she arrived after her hold expired. It's completely up to you if you still want Candy, or if you will let the first hold have it, even though hers is expired." It took everything in me not to completely chew out the staff member. It was NOT my fault that they did not write down the correct time. To infer it was my fault, and say so IN FRONT OF ME to a stranger, is completely unprofessional. When the 2nd hold said they still wanted the rabbit, and the red head hung up the phone, she looked at me and shrugged, and didn't say anything. None of the staff members even APOLOGIZED for this event. It is unacceptable, unprofessional, and completely unfair to me. I now not only have to return everything I just purchased, including a cage my husband took 40 minutes to set up, but I also have to deal with the heartache and disappointment that the bunny I fell in love with and planned to take home today is no longer mine. This shelter needs to have a serious chat and re-training of their terrible staff. What a complete and utter disappointment.
The happiest day, the day that I visited the Campus for Compassion and adopted a beautiful Border Collie mix. The facility was light years ahead of any other rescue I had ever visited. The dogs were well cared for, groomed and had behavioral training. The staff was responsive, very much wanted to find the right dog for me as I had just lost a Siberian Husky and thought that I wanted another Husky. They found me the perfect dog...brought her out for me to play with and to a room to sit and visit with her. I have had Pepper for 10+ years and she is everything I hoped for in a pet. She is now 13 years old and every day has been a blessing.
I adopted a puppy from the AZ Humane Society almost 2 years ago. This was my first time every having a pet, and the whole process was very helpful. They gave me a ton of information and it was an easy process. Everyone was helpful and seemed to genuinely care for the animals. I love my dog and have been thinking about getting her a "sibling".... if/when I do, I will definitely head back to the AZ Humane Society.
My daughter saw free adoption day on the news, so we went down and she picked out her baby kitty. Jupiter. Great people. Patient and caring towards the animals
