I went for the free spay and neuter day and was very happy with my experience. I was put on the waiting list initially but was able to get my dog fixed that day. The nurse that checked us in was very nice and explained what they would do. The nurse that gave him to me after his procedure was also very thorough with post op instructions. I will be back for all his shots and spay and neuters for other dogs. VERY PLEASED!!
I really feel bad for writing a bad review on a place that you are supposed to adopt and save animals from, but maybe the people working at the Humane Society will actually take the time to read this and DO something about this. I had recently gone to the Biltmore petique to find a dog. My boyfriend and I were immediately greeted with warm smiles and people asking us questions about what we were looking for. Needless to say I had a GOOD experience there, but once I went to Sunnyslope everything changed. The volunteers there are less than friendly, all they did when we got there was give us dirty looks and completely ignore us. I was interested in a couple of dogs there, but NO ONE would talk to me about any of them. They would leave us in the room alone, and when they came back more dirty looks and questions unanswered. I am COMPLETELY DISGUSTED by the way the people at Sunnyslope run things. You are in the business to save lives, and if you dont present yourself properly how do you expect people to be able to adopt an animal???? Seriously Humane Society, this is ridiculous.. Put your volunteers through some basic communication training. If people dont feel welcome coming to a place to help save a life, if your staff looks like they really could care less about the animals that are currently placed there, and if you cant take the dogs on a walk and only have a caged area that is HARDLY bigger than the one they already stay in.. what the hell are you doing in that area then? Where are all the donations going to to make these places BETTER for the animals?? Why arent you guys making sure your volunteers actually care and greet people with respect??? I thought the Humane Society was overbooked, but when I got there more than half the cages are empty, whats up with that???? This seriously irks me because I really love and care about animals and when I go to a place that receives endless donations and the place looks like a Sarah McLachlan commercial and the employees dont even look like they want to be there to help the animals, there is something wrong.
If you can find a way to get your pet to a 'no kill' shelter do it. The Humane Society gets LOTS of money through donations, and they kill nearly ALL animals surrendered. Yes, they have a few tear jerky stories to get more donations, but the truth is they have a care-less attitude when it comes to cats (especially.) There Campus for Compassion is rarely full of animals because they are killed before they have a chance to go there. They want people to foster kittens for them, and when the kittens are grown and ready for adoption the person fostering has to pay to turn them in for adoption, and then they kill them anyway. All the shelters ALWAYS claim to be full. Killing animals is not humane under any circumstances. Pets on parade use to talk about "come and see the miracle of death." Everyone that I have ever spoken to at these places is nasty unless you are giving them money.
The truth about the AZ Humane Society is that they euthanize more animals than they actually save. The reason is because it is much more cost effective to use their blue juice as they call it than to treat an animal. This is especially true of cats and in particular kittens who are euthanized the most. So if you are bringing in an animal to the humane society because you think it will be given a fighting chance then you are making a grave mistake as you are most likely giving the animal a death sentence. The humane society will make excuses for their actions such as overpopulation or lie how the cats were ill. In some cases it is true, but in most they will euthanize healthy animals due to cost and room. They will gladly mark an animal to be euthanized than to help it recover. At the end of the day it is all about money.
