Former Banfield Wellness Plan Carrier - The reason for this review is to warn others of the upcharges Banfield duped me on during a recent visit. My dog (a black lab) was not eating and started to shiver as if to have a fever. Unaware of what might be the problem I brought him in to get checked out and aleviate this issue. The staff was courteous as usual and helped me get my sick pooch in fast. After the doctor checked him out I went over all the "RECOMMENDED" procedures / testing they advised me to do all at once. The doctor instructed me that my dog had a fever but there could be somthing else which we wont know unless we do $1000.00 worth of testing. I went over the $1000.00 in "RECOMMENDED" procedures / tests with the assistant inquiring what I could do to get the cost below a grand as I am a full time student who is financially strapped like most. After shaving off $500 I was advised to stop cutting down the procedures and move forward with the testing, ect. I picked my dog up later that day and was told he received a $24.47 antibiotic shot while they tried to sell me even more antibiotics. I looked over my $500+ bill to see that I saved $1.22 on the shot. I saved $9.96 on the Radiology Abdomen which cost $199.28 along with multiple other costs I now feel were unnecessary. The doctors said they would call me with the blood test the next day. After calling the clinic 2 days later I was then told the doctor would call me back later that day. By that time my dog was better however, my wallet has not recovered after charging $500 + on a credit card. The doctor never suggested to try the medicine and if he continues to stay sick move on with the other testing / proceudres. The doctor did not force me to do anything, however I am not a vet and place a lot of trust in our vet to help instruct me to make the right chioce(s) that would best help my dog without the upcharges that were unnecessary. I have since moved on to a vet who agrees with my dilemma and seems to have both mine and my dogs best interest in mind.
