NOTHING OPTIMUM ABOUT THIS PLAN! Always ask yourself the question: "Would insurance (type) plans exist if the insurers could lose money long-term?" People, save yourself a large headache down the road, and simply DO NOT EVER CONSIDER PURCHASING the Banfield Pet Hospital Optimum Wellness Plan. They bill you ridiculous amounts for routine visits while under the plan. "But wait" you say, "Why does that matter, isn't it just included in the plan?" Well, not exactly. You will ALWAYS be running a "balance owed" based on what you would've paid if you didn't have the plan (according to them), and they string-along that balance against you. This makes it near impossible to ever cancel without basically paying the (catch-up) balance, and you'll be surprised how substantial that is. And within a week of your auto-renew -- they call you to schedule your dog for his "mandatory" vaccinations. They'll print out a bill for over $300 for that visit! Would you go to a Vet who charged over $300 for a routine check-up and vaccinations? They try to warm and fuzzy you and actually act as if you "saved" that money by being on the plan. Now they know have you sucked you in for the rest of the year at $34.95 per month, because you owe it anyways (according to their inflated bill) if you cancel. Do you see the scheme here? BTW, it's not like we're degenerate folks who didn't give them more than our fair share of $$. For 2+ years, we had only two visits (each for routine check-ups and vaccinations) and paid them ALMOST $900 on the plan, called in and cancelled (which they ignored) but we had to stop our credit card to get them to stop billing us, and now of course, they say we still owe them $80. And how does Banfield thank thee for the $900 payment (for about $250 worth of service)...? By placing our account with a collection agency asking for $80 more... that's how! So as you can see by Banfield's priorities, it's all about your dog! Well maybe their vets are just downright amazing...? Nope, doesn't seem so. A Vet there actually recommended a low-fat diet for our dog. Fat is a highly critical nutrient for all of us and ESPECIALLY for our beloved dogs. We used to patronize PetSmart (for food, grooming and supplies) and decided to try Banfield, but now due to their money-grubbing "wellness" plan and it's despicable business model, both have lost our business entirely. So far, we've stopped 3 others from continuing business with them, and they will certainly not gain anybody else we can spread the word to as well. I really don't get a charge out of writing bad reviews like some people do... but each person who reads this review will have made it well worth sharing our Banfield experience.
