BEWARE!!! This place will try to sell you thousands of dollars worth of treatments. When you refuse, they will try to sell you on killing your animal... My 17 year old cat began showing signs of not feeling well (lack of appetite, sleeps a lot). I took her in to see Dr. Krohn, who ran a series of blood tests and found that my cat either has cancer or immune mediate disorder. She said my cat needs an emergency blood transfusion which costs about $3,000. She made it sound like my cat was going to die if I did not have this done immediately. I reminded Dr. Krohn that I was on a very tight budget, and could not afford this! As heartbroken as I was about the news, I asked if there were any options as far as keeping my cat comfortable during her ending days. Unfortunately, she had no other options and we hung up. About 4 minutes later, Dr. Krohn called me back and offered an antibiotic and prednisone to increase her appetite and thirst. She also informed me that if I decided to do the meds I could not bring my cat back in for a blood test as it would produce invalid results. I gladly accepted the meds. Two days later the vet called to check on my cat. I had concerns as she had not used the bathroom, and I wasn't sure if she was eating as I had not seen her do so. Dr. Krohn told me that she wasn't sure she would even make it through the night, and my cat had probably been suffering since I first brought her in. She then offered to stay open late that night so I could bring my cat in to be euthanized. I refused. I explained to Dr. Krohn that my cat was STILL PURRING, STILL MOBILE, and was showing NO SIGNS of pain or discomfort. I spent my evening by her side, crying like a baby because I began to think this may be my last night with her. The next day my cat sure had a way of letting me know "now is not her time". She began using the bathroom, and had an increased appetite/thirst. She began socializing more with family members, and seemed to be feeling much better. When I began weaning her off the prednisone, her conditioned worsened. I called Dr. Krohn and asked for a refill on prednisone. She wanted me to bring my cat in for more blood work so they could "test her levels". Excuse me, but I thought the tests would be invalid if I chose to put her on meds! The prednisone does an excellent job keeping my cat comfortable, and that was the goal! She had an assistant call me back to tell me she will refill it this time, but if I need another refill she will need to be brought in for more blood work. My cat is STILL alive, STILL sleeping with me, STILL purring, STILL eating/drinking, STILL using the bathroom, STILL socializing, STILL watching the birds, and STILL enjoying her senior lifestyle. Some days are better than others, and some days she just does not feel all that well. It breaks my heart to think that if I would have listened to this "Dr. Krohn", my kitty would not be here today. Granted, she is 17 years old and her days are numbered, but she is still enjoying life! Unfortunately, this place is so cruel they REFUSE to refill the prescription that keeps her comfortable during her ending stages of life.
I've taken a couple of my animals to Banfield and they seem to be ok. As far as quality of care, they rank up along with other vets and of course it varies by Doctor. Their Optimum wellness plans are a good deal and though (like any vet) they'll give you options, I haven't felt pressured. I took one adopted dog in (they accepted him as a walk-in) and he had distemper. The vet was very kind to sit down with me and discuss it and I felt like she gave me a good idea of what was available to me. I didn't feel pressured to do treatment I couldn't afford and she even called me up in the next couple days to see how my dog was doing. When I called the front desk to ask a question, they were very helpful. Maybe you could get better quality care elsewhere, but fact of the matter is that it is a cost effective and convenient vet and vet care is always expensive. If there's a major issue and you feel unsure, do just get a second opinion.
My experience with Dr. Pearce at the Banfield pet hospital located at Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe AZ 85201 was exceptional. My Miniature Pincher, Frankie went completely blind in his right eye. It glazed over and turned completely white in less than 6 hours! I knew that my little guy needed to see a veterinarian right away, despite the fact that I am currently on a tight budget. I was able to schedule a new patient appointment that same day. Also, they had an easy to find and print coupon on line for a complementary office visit to new patents. We were greeted with a very friendly staff that fell in love with my poor little guy right away. The wait time was short and the room was very clean. Dr. Ryan Pearce left a lasting impression on me. I could tell that he was in this line of work because he truly loves animals. It felt like he genuinely wanted to help me, to help Frankie live a happy and healthy life despite his mysterious and sudden condition. We had several follow up calls from Dr Pearce him self and he was ready to answer all my questions. He was very proactive in treating Frankie in an affordable manner. His treatment plan was the most affordable and made more since to me then any other vet that I have taken my dogs to in the past. Dr Pearce saved my dogs vision and we are so grateful to him. I highly recommend you try his services.
"Banfield Pet Hustlers" Constant attempts of upselling services. Hidden fees on top of hidden fees. Also got my puppy spayed here on the wellness plan. She ended up with a major infection, which Banfield tried to charge me more for to fix it.. DONT TAKE YOUR PET TO BANFIELD!
