Edited June 4, 2012 Picked up my little furkid on Saturday, 6/2 and I was so happy to see him. He looked great and he remembered me! I have to say that I started to stress out the day after I left him and emailed At Home Kennels over the Memorial Day weekend (twice) and left a worried voicemail message. I received a phone call a day later from Cassandra B. who called to calm and assure me that Loki was doing fine and that he was getting along with the staff and the other dogs in the community room. It meant so much to me to get that call and after I hung up I felt that I could breathe easier and enjoy my holiday in Canada. I also received her delayed email not long after her call. The prompt return of my email and phone calls really convinced me that At Home Kennels is true to their word, they really do provide attentive service and quality care at a very affordable cost. It's a big relief to know that there is a home away from home for Loki and I won't hesitate to have him stay over again in the future. ************************ I dropped by for an unannounced tour of their premises because I am looking to board my chihuahua pug mix for 10 days. I've never boarded any of my dogs before so was concerned about his safety and health. I went on a Saturday morning, about 9am and brought my dog. It is way out on the east side in an almost rural area. You can see that the larger dog runs face out to the parking lot and have a view of the front yard. The office and runs are enclosed by a chain link fence. I walked into the office and there was a bustle of activity and about 3 staff members in scrubs running around in cleaning mode. The young man at the desk wasn't a smiler but was efficient and reviewed my vaccination documents. Once that was done he took me into the run area that was being cleaned (it did smell but that was understandable since it was morning clean up). One thing I noticed that I wasn't so keen on was that large to small dogs were kenneled in the same area. So I saw a small chihuahua next door to a large dog. All the kennels were full and this was early May before the summer vacation season so I thought that was a good sign that folks liked this place. I asked about socializing and he said they have a community area for small dogs which was indoors with large glass windows so the area was visible. I really liked this idea since I've been worried about Loki being lonely. You do have to sign a consent form but that's okay. I also asked about emergency health situations. You also sign for an approved amount of money that you're willing to spend at the vet and I can't remember which vet they use. They aren't staffed 24/7 but they do have someone living next door in a trailer. Cost to house a small dog is $14. I reserved for Friday May 24 and will call to confirm. I'll write more after my trip and I pick him up. Update - May 2014 - I used At-Home Kennel again, this time to board Loki and his new sister, Mimi. Again, I have to confirm how impressed I am with this kennel and the staff. They are a young group but so very nice and when you ask/call to see how the fur kids did they actually give you concrete examples of how they behaved. What they told me definitely matched how my dogs typically behave among strangers. When I picked them up, four days later, they looked fantastic and very happy to see me. **I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AT-HOME KENNEL**
At Home kennels is a wonderful place to board your pets. I worked here for 5 years and left to pursue a career in another field that I am also passionate about. As a former employee, I know for a fact that all the staff cares about each pet, I mean every single one. They do not discriminate breeds. The staff keep log books on your pet for its feeding and behaviors during their stay. They keep a file on every single pet and make sure all animals are up to date on vaccinations. They're very hands on to make sure your loved ones are happy and comfortable. Great at feeding giving medication making sure with the owners that the right amount is given and making sure everyone is eating. This is important to them. No instructions are considered too big or too small. Everyone on staff has a pet and love animals and treat the pets at the kennel as their own. Petting them, talking, playing, and letting them out to exercise. There is also a lot that goes into keeping the facility clean. Also have a washer and dryer on site. Yes, it is an older building, but maintaining a safe and clean environment throughout the day is a top priority. At Home kennels also have a great groomer with tons of experience. She does a wonderful job at making sure your pet looks good and makes them feel comfortable at the same time. The kennel is also ALWAYS looking to better themselves. Talking of new ways they can help serve you and your loved ones. This is a very dedicated staff, which I was honored to be a apart of. Saying this, I will never hesitate to leave my loved one when I have to leave town because I know she'll receive the best care. If you have any suggestions mention it to the staff they might not always be able to do it, but I promise you they will consider it and keep it in mind. Your always welcome to take a tour of the facility. Having said that I personally recommend the times between 10-2 as your best times. Thanks for taking time to read this.
We had to leave Tucson for five weeks and we boarded our beloved little cat, Moca, with At-Home Kennel during that time. Needless to say I was anxious - five weeks is a long time. But right away the staff said and did all the right things. They were very communicative before we came, answering all questions. Every staff member we met knew about us, knew about the cat, and were obviously animal lovers. Moca's 'kennel' was very large with lots of space to climb and perch (they know cats!) and best of all it was in a place where people passed often during the day. While we were away, our emails were answered promptly and thoroughly. Moca is glad to be home, but I think she misses her At-Home people too!
I have been using At-Home Kennel for four years after discovering they were near my home on the SE part of Tucson. My 10 year old dog has been boarded many times throughout her life and always seems to have a rough time readjusting after a stay. Previously from other kennels she would come home exhausted, anxious, and usually with GI upsets as well. Since staying at At-Home kennels she actually comes home completely normal! They take good care of her there and provide a lot of attention. They have never made a mistake on the reservations and they always pull her "file" to make sure all vaccinations are up to date before her stay. The prices are very reasonable and if your pet is staying a little longer they have a coupon on their website. The property around the facility appears a little rundown, but after touring the facility it appears very clean and no different than the inside of any other boarding kennel. The people working there seem to really care for the animals staying there. What I like best about At-Home Kennels are their hours. Most kennels have no, or limited Sunday hours, basically requiring you to pick up your pets after the weekend, but At-Home Kennels have very convent hours. Highly recommend.
I picked up a very happy dog today, a little tired out but very happy. It is nice to know that I have people to count on to take such care of my baby boy. Please extend by gratitude to your staff, they do an outstanding job and there is no doubt how much they love animals. Nicole & Buster
