I have TONS of experience with vets over the years. We have been owned by some of the highest maintenance family members on the planet (fellow animal lovers understand that we are the ones who are owned, not our pets). Anyhow, we recently moved to the area and just yesterday rescued a pitmix from a high kill shelter. Rather than stick around that shelter any longer than we absolutely had to, I was able to get her out and researched vets nearby. I saw so many wonderful reviews on YELP that I decided to give them a call to ask a few questions. Jeanine at the front desk was very attentive to my questions and assured me that my newest family member would be examined and well cared for by Dr Gellar (also highly recommended by others). It sure didn't hurt to find out that he's been a vet for over 30 years. I was concerned that our newest family member had kennel cough and was quite impressed that they took the necessary measures to see me without possibly infecting anyone else waiting to be seen. They had me call from the parking lot and then met me at a side door to bring me right into the exam room. We were seen almost immediately upon arrival. Nichole (Dr Gellar's right hand) was so sweet with our new baby girl, putting her at ease right away. Dr Gellar was fantastic. He didn't try to upsell, like most vets these days. He seemed genuinely concerned with getting her healthy first and we'll worry about spaying and getting her all of her shots once we get her healthy =) I can't say enough about the treatment we received on our very first visit. I do believe it won't be our only visit.
We had SUCH a great experience here. While on vacation our dog ripped up the pads on his paws and we went here to have them looked at by Dr. Adams. She was so nice, explained everything really well, and was empathetic to our dog's pain. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. We were afraid that we'd be taken advantage of since we were not local and desperate, but we paid a very fair price for her service, and our dog's meds, boots and cone.
If I could give 0 stars I would do that. Although, most of the front office staff are nice, calling into that place and getting any kind of answer to anything pertaining to your pet, medication, test results, or anything else is a cluster ****. It takes many phone calls to get one simple answer because nobody wants to take ownership of any responsibility to get the job done. Passing the buck is a finely tuned mechanism in that place. Way too many people get involved and the ball gets dropped which most people don't want to feel that when dealing with their pet. If you want to pay top dollar and wait for endless hours as if your time is not valuable, then this is the place for you. They will and I mean WILL charge absolute top dollar and itemize you to death for every last possible thing they can think of and to be honest, you will not get a straight answer. You will leave feeling like you are not sure what your visit meant and if you don't pay for everything they suggest, then somehow you are a bad pet owner. They will triple dip by charging you for things like doing a cytology, a charge to have the cytology report read, then charge you to tell you the results, even though you paid for the cytology test to begin with. What happened to a vet actually caring about the animal's well being and not using it as a forum to empty a person's wallet through fear and scare tactics. Dr. Carmine Bausone is all over the place when you try to get to the bottom of what's going on with your pet. You feel as if you need to reign him in to one thought process and that's not a good feeling. A vet that can't commit to answers and a diagnosis is a person that should not be a vet. I believe, he weighs you up to see what you might be able to afford and then suggests treatment accordingly. He uses his assistant vet technician as a screen to field important questions (poor girl). He will tell you things that just aren't medically possible for your pet in hopes that you'll be a sucker and pay for those things out of love for your pet. He will scoff at science based medicine. If you want a return phone call, then don't hold your breath. Dr. Gallerstein is a better vet and more thorough with answers that step everything out but once again he will abuse the charges for services rendered. I don't have an issue paying for any of my pet's care but what I have an issue with is blatant robbery that goes on right under your nose. As a final note, I witnessed an incident in their office (while waiting endlessly for my appointment) with their front office staff that really put the final nail in the coffin for me. A couple were checking out at the front office and settling their bill. They asked the front office person to have the vet fax an Rx to I believe was 1-800-pet-meds. The front office person tried to persuade them to buy it at their office. They declined stating that Acacia's charge for medication was a 100% mark-up and they would prefer, since they were on a budget, getting it from the online place. The front office lady followed up with trying to tell them that that place purchases substandard medications and not from the same manufacturer that they got their medications from and that what they would buy would probably be also expired. This was utter lies because it's illegal to sell expired medication and they obtain their products from the same manufacturers unless it's a generic and then the generics are made by the same companies and then distributed to all different places including 1800 pet meds and all vet practices. The couple were so strong-armed that they became upset and walked out. Then, the front office lady ran out into the parking lot to I assume talk to them some more. This was absolutely ridiculous and a completely shameful event. This place should be avoided at all cost. There are so many more vets out there that actually CARE about your pet.
They took our cat outback and didn't let us see the $70 antibiotic shot that did absolutely nothing. Almost $200 for one visit with no result cats still sick and they don't seam to care.they just want 56 dollars for visit and like another 150 for tests to do nothing. They are shady!!! Also said she was over weight but gave no direction for helping to fix this only said feed the cart wet food only. She got fatter. They said she had gingivitis and gave no help with that. Over all they robbed us of our cash and our cat its still sick and they don't care. Or old vet in San Bernardino charged nothing for follow up. They cared about animals, Acacia only cares about money!!!! Oh and we waited for an hour.
So helpful with my sickly bunny. These people are true professionals and I do love Dr. Mendez he really understands rabbits. their prices are very reasonable.... no worries am happy to have found them!!!
