So I just made my appointment with these guys, first impression is very important with me. The staff is absolutely amazing! So genuine and kind, it truly meant alot to me because I've been so scared and stressed about my Buppas. I was very upset going to multiple vets, being charged up to $1500 for tests and medications that did nothing for him. I love this place so far, and will update my review after my visit! Have very high hopes for this place! ♡
Dr. Johnson is one of the most caring veterinarians I have ever met. I have had several pets over the last 70 years and many vets but for the last 15 years Dr. Johnson has been my guy. Also, his staff is sensitive to the emotional trauma one goes through when you lose a pet and very cooperative when you call for an emergency appointment. I cannot recommend this veterinarian more. You would be smart to at least give him a try.
I had initially taken my cat to Hemet Animal Hospital on Girard, barely breathing, I had an appointment, but was 1/2 an hour early because he started to go downhill very quickly. I was sobbing when I walked through the doors with him in my arms. I was told it would be $300 for an emergency visit, although technically I was just early for an appointment. The staff at the front desk were completely cold, uncaring, and RUDE. I was showed into a room ( no ER fee thank GOD) and a young woman vet came in. the took his temp & x-rays. They then took me in a room and the young vet proceeded to push the theory that he had heart failure down my throat. I mean she kept pushing it, and pushing it. He had fluid in his lungs, and I asked if it was maybe a respiratory infection, she said it was a small possibility. They put him in a warmer, and on oxygen for an hour, and gave him a shot of Lasix. The only good thing is they didn't charge me for the oxygen or warmer, which they were going to charge me $100 for. They sent him home with antibiotics, and Lasix. His breathing got better over a couple of days, but he was still sick. The Vet had called the next day, and was once again pushing heart failure down my throat, and telling me he needed an echocardiogram. Something felt wrong to me, so I took him in for a second opinion @ AVL Animal Hospital. The staff was very warm, and welcoming, Very caring. The Vet, Dr. Johnson, was extremely thorough,. He spent an unknown amount of time listening to his heart, going over his x-rays, and DID BLOOD WORK. ( Hemet Animal Hospital never even offered it). Come to find out, my cat was in severe KIDNEY failure, and there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with his heart!! He had a prognosis of 24-48 hours to live. Well, The Dr gave me a treatment plan, and said if he made it through the weekend getting subQ fluids every 12 hours, then his prognosis may start to look up. Well, here we are, about 3 weeks later and he is back to his normal self. I still have to give him fluids every 12 hours because he has Kidney disease, but he is now in the hands of a good vet. The Lasix that Hemet Animal Hospital put him on almost killed him. He was overdosed. I was so pissed off, that I didn't call them when we got his diagnosis, but THEY called me the next day, and I informed them what had happened. The vet from there never even called me back to apologize. My experience at the other vet was horrific. I will never take my animals anywhere else but here. The staff, and Dr. Johnson are so absolutely wonderful, and they genuinely care about your pet. If I could give them 100 stars I would!
Dr. Johnson and his staff are the best out there. I have taken my dog, Lily, to him for over 7 years. He doesn't get excited easily and he instills that same calmness to the pet and its owner. He is not quick to medicate or to recommend expensive treatments, if it is not warranted. You can tell he has many years of experience and accumulated wisdom from those years. He also possesses just good old common sense. Which is so refreshing! My Lily, a medium-sized, mix breed dog who is 13 years old, is everything to me. I have implicit trust in Dr. Johnson in caring for her. He expects his staff to have the same high standards he holds to.I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Johnson and his staff.
I've used AVL and Dr. Johnson for over fifteen years for breeds large and small, for dogs and cats, for routine care and emergencies, and there's no place else I'd go to feel more confident in the care of my pets. I trust them completely and appreciate many years of their helpful, respectful, professional, knowledgable and caring service.
