Thank everyone who has written a review recently. I'm SO glad I perused your reviews literally 5 minutes before the vet called me about my dog who is in there right this second under anesthesia to get her teeth cleaned. The vet wanted to extract 9 (NINE!!!!!!) teeth for a cost that is upwards of $1,500 IN ADDITION TO the $315.50 they have already quoted. As it is, I will need to add on "Max Guard" drops to help maintain clean teeth and antibiotics, so my cost will be upwards of $350, I'm sure. I'm spending more on my pup than I do on my own dental care. This feels like highway robbery. I will be looking for a new vet. We have been going to Loomis Basin for over 10 years now and they have always been on the pricey side, but this is too much.
Our dog was attacked by a coyote right before Thanksgiving. He weighs about 15 lbs. Loomis Basin vets worked diligently to save our dog, who was in shock when we brought him into the vet. He spent 4 days in the vet hospital and had excellent care. We were informed of his recovery daily, and Loomis Basin always made sure that we knew the cost of everything up front. Each vet we spoke with seemed to really care about Sam, and his comfort during his recovery, and were nice enough to let us visit him every day to lift his spirits. Sammy is now recovered, and back to his normal self, begging for attention at all times and ruling our household full of animals. Several vets and technicians helped care for Sammy. They were all caring, supportive, professional, but more importantly, they all had heart. Sammy was well cared for during his recover. I thought the care was fabulous and want to thank everyone for saving our 10 year old daughter's beloved pet. It will be a very Merry Christmas!
This place is all about pets. They show their love for dogs, cats, rodents, etc. They don't show any love for the human, aka owner. When does it sink into these people that the owner of a pet, IS their customer. I get to choose where my pet goes for care. No customer service on the owner's side at this place. If you decide not to order medications from them, you're screwed! They're remiss to write a prescription for a 50-75% discount at Walmart, 800-Pet-meds, Foster & Smith, etc. Okay... October 15th, I order heartworm meds online. (They rip you off at Loomis.) My doggie needs them by Nov. 1. The online company faxes Loomis twice, I email twice, I phone their pharmacy twice (they only use a recorder to screen calls. Heaven forbid they answer... too busy filling flea creams in-house). No response from Loomis to anything! I have spent thousands here. I'll take my business elsewhere. I'm the customer, not my dog. As a previous reviewer said, "Tons of staff here", Nobody does anything and you pay the their overhead! Google fans say, "They are one of the "Top 10" largest vet hospitals in the country." 4 reviewers. WOW top 10 largest in the U.S! That doesn't mean you should buy a Ford or GM, or shop at Walmart.
Inept veterinarians - DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PET IN THEIR HANDS! We took our dog to Loomis Basin and it took them 1 week to determine that our dog had terminal cancer...they charged us over $10,000, but wait - it gets better... When we initially brought our dog in, they ran some initial tests that took over an hour. The ditzy veterinarian finally came out to us and said, "Well good news and bad news - the GOOD news is that he does NOT have cancer, blah, blah, blah.". Since they weren't sure what WAS wrong with our dog, we had to leave him for, what ended up being, several days of tests and they sheepishly said, "Uhhh, guess what...your dog has terminal cancer..." It's funny to me that the original airhead we dealt with wasn't the one to apologize for being premature in her "diagnosis" (if you can call it that) and giving us false hope. You don't have to hang around the lobby for long to get the feeling that this place is a fine-oiled, cash-cow machine. They don't give a rats $%^ about your animal, only making their next Ferrari payment. These people are clueless and they take their marching orders from Corporate VCA. There was a time they were well respected, but now they're corporate so they're all about how much $$$ they can suck out of you. Don't take your animal here - if you're in the Sacramento area, go to U.C. Davis if you have the luxury of a little time on your side. If you must take your animal here - pray...you're going to need it!
they botched a surgery on my pet. redid the surgery and denied the original screw up was their fault. cost my thousands. they use to be great until they were bought out by VCA. now it is all about profit and out with customer care.
