I had been going to AMC on and off for 6 years. Last week - I brought a 5 week old puppy in that we had rescued from the shelter 4 hours prior. The shelter told me he was "dehydrated" but I decided to take him in (after hours) to be examined and receive fluids and a B12 shot. He looked pretty critical and was painful to the touch. emaciated and dehydrated. Sadly for me - Dr. Van Volkenburgh was on duty. She walks in and tries to grab the blanketed puppy from my arms. I explained how delicate he was and asked to take him to the back to examine him. She returned 4 mins later telling me that I would not walk out of there for less than $1000-$1500. Along with the fluids I had requested - she wanted to do the full workup on him - X-rays, blood work. I explained I did not have that kind of money available and would rather stabilize him through the night and take him to my rescue friendly vet in the morning - she LITERALLY ROLLED HER EYES AT ME. Long story short - they charged $750 for 9 hours of hospitalization and and IV/vitamins. When I called her to check in in the AM she coldly told me he was not going to make it and ---- how would I like to dispose of the body? She was hands down the rudest, most frigid vets I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. 3 years ago - Dr. Campbell improperly aspirated a lump on my dog - (choosing to do only one aspiration verses the more common practice of aspirating multiple times). The $400 test for lymphoma came back as inconclusive. When I took him to another vet - they were able to tell me within 1 week that my dog had lymphoma. Because of Dr. Campbell's improper diagnostic skills - I lost 3 weeks of treatment that may have helped my dog. I don't doubt they did all the appropriate on the 5 week old puppy. But - they surely don't treat their clients with kindness. They lost my business for good this time.

Pet lovers be aware - you may get ripped off by this Animal Center. Get a quote in an Email (in writing) and don't just get a quote on the phone or you may lose a lot of money. We scheduled a procedure to remove a both of our dog's toes with her regular vet but wanted to get it done earlier so we scheduled the procedure with Animal Medical Center. The secretary on the phone estimated that it will cost about $450-$500. So we came there and the staff was very nice and professional. After a the wait the vet checked the dog and the quote came to almost $1,300. We said that we will not pay that price from two reasons: 1. They quoted a price of about $450-$500 on the phone the day earlier! 2. Our vet quoted a price of $380 (without blood work - to make it apples to apples). On our way out shocked and upset with the time wasted time and due to the fact that we almost got ripped off, the secretary called us and said that since the vet saw the dog we must pay $69 in an office visit fee. We were very angry and asked them to waive the fee from all the reasons specified above but after talking to the vet (I believe Dr, Schulman) , the technician came out and said that they will not waive this fee since the dr. in their centre is a board certified surgeon. Bottom line - Thanks god we live in America and there are other vets that are honest, straightforward, reasonable, fair and professional and that DO WHAT THEY SAY THEY WILL DO! I just feel bad that other pet owners who may not know that they can get what they need for their beloved pets for a lot less. It is so good to know I will never step a foot in this place ever again!!!

They actually do ok medical work sometimes, but mostly it's shameless procedure pushing. They try to get you to pay crazy amounts of money for every test, etc...For example, my young healthy lab stuck her head in a foxtail bush and recoiled sneezing blood. I took her in to have it removed, and Dr. Tanaka first tried to convince me that she had spontaneous nose cancer that comes on quickly and she needed diagnostics for that, and when I said why don't you look in her nose first, he said they'd have to sedate her, so they'd need blood tests to check her, and so on, for over $800. I took her home as I'd just recovered from the last vet bill, had my husband hold her down, shined a light in her nose and pulled the foxtail out with some tweezers. Also, Dr. Campbell is just out and out incompetent.

Our family dog needed to come here on emergency because he was vomiting. Excellent service at the front desk--warm, inviting, and receptive. Medical technician was professional. Doctor attentive to pet concerns and nurturing while checking our pet. Estimate was what I expected considering that we brought him close to midnight. Grateful for the manner our dog was treated. Doctor Brown came out to give us a status report with data in hand with our options. Happy that our dog came out the door feeling better. That's really what matters.

Came in for an emergency allergic reaction for our dog. Immediately upon entering they take your dog away from you. After filling out the intake forms we see a vet who tells us the full doomsday scenario and the need to keep the dog over night. We asked three times to see our dog and they ignored us. As we become more angry and fed up at not being able to see our girl, (who we could hear whining just outside the door - because...our girl...she's kind of a wuss) they finally tell us we can see the dog after we settle our bill. At this point I was done with the hospital and wanted to get us and our dog as far away as possible. We were in an extremely stressful/emotional situation they took our dog and held it for ransom for the bill. I couldn't believe it. Treated us like we were going to run off without paying. If only Dr. Davidson et al at Value Vet offered emergency services...
