If I could give zero stars, I would. . . I have had pets for decades and experience with several veterinary clinics and this place by far is the most unprofessional. My perception is that this place is primarily interested in cultivating revenue rather than animal health care. Our primary care veterinarian accidentally dispensed Methocarbamol instead of Metronidazole for my dog's diarrhea. It was Sunday and my regular veterinarian’s office was closed so I called Animal Specialty Group and explained the situation. The lady who answered the telephone told me that there would be a $90.00 fee and I was fine with that (money isn’t a concern). When I arrived they took my dog promptly and I met with the veterinarian, Dr. Amelia Anderson. I showed documentation from the previous day’s vet, explaining the prescription error (I am a pharmacist). She seemed to understand and quickly returned with an estimate of almost $600.00 for my dog’s diarrhea. Being vulnerable and loving my dog, I agreed for her to move forward. Three hours later (with my dog in the back, who I heard crying) I inquired at the front desk. After my persistence, I met Dr. Anderson in a back room. She tried to convince me that my dog needs to stay overnight and denied me the medication (Metronidazole) that I originally came for. I persisted and she said she will give me the medication I need. I then waited for almost an hour longer and still nothing. I eventually pressed the front staff and they reluctantly returned my dog with the medication I had to press for with a bill of over $400.00. I spoke with other individuals in the waiting room who also expressed concern over this clinic’s ethics but also felt vulnerable to the circumstances (of not having anywhere else to go). Bottom line: there are other ‘emergency veterinarians’ in the Los Angeles area other than this one. My perception is that the veterinarian on duty (Dr. Anderson) is inexperienced and pressured to turn a profit. I will definitely not be returing.

ASG is awesome! They are very compassionate and caring for both humans and pets going through whatever ordeal they are going through. My dog had two torn knee ligaments and ASG fixed her right up. Dr. Strom and his staff called me everyday to give me updates and Lulu felt comfortable and secure when we left her when the second knee went out.

This is THE place to go for emergency care and critical care for pets. They were so welcoming and thorough with our poor dog Sawyer when he needed a weekend stay at the hospital. They also worked very well with my vet before and afterwards. Thankfully, Sawyer was able to make it through and come home with us, but I 've had friends who had an incredible experience there when their dogs had to be put to sleep. ASG was very compassionate and sent several condolence letters afterwards. We couldn't ask for better care. All you have to do is go visit and read the many, many thank you letters and photographs that adorn the walls to know that this is the place to go.

This helpful, professional team took my sick dog in for the night, diagnosed his problems, and got him back on his feet in no time. Great doctors, competent and friendly staff. These guys are the real deal.

I have two dogs that are only alive due to the treatment they received at ASG. This is an hospital for animals that are very ill. This is not your walk in vet, who have time to visit and socialize. When your pet lands here it is because they need emergency help now. The first dog was bleeding from her mouth and her rectum. We think she chewed a so called "safe" bone. She was punctured somewhere internally. The doctors could not do surgery, they didn't know where the puncture was, even with x-rays. (Please remember that medicine is not always an exact science until you open up a living body.) They treated her with a medication to stop the bleeding internally. She needed transfusions and they called me and told me when they were doing them. She is alive, she is back to normal activity. Since then she has been the centerfold in a dog magazine and she is back to working as a therapy dog and taking agility classes. The second dog was young, she went into heat and stayed there for several months. My regular vet could find nothing wrong, no elevated blood tests. But one night she wouldn't eat. I took her to ASG on New Year's Eve. They had vets there and did tests, she was an emergency case and needed immediate surgery. She is also back to normal. I will tell you that treatment at ASG is not cheap and their first paperwork with worst case scenario is downright frightening. But both times they have saved my dogs livse and come in under the first estimate. They are honest and they care.
