If you care about your pet, STAY AWAY. Dr. Kumar made it very clear that he doesn't care about animals if he's not getting a paycheck and, to be honest, I question his veterinary experience. I recently adopted a small terrier from the animal shelter and - living right around the corner - I took my boy into Sunset Animal Hospital with his voucher from the shelter for a free physical exam. Dr. Kumar's "exam" basically involved moving his head around to see my dog from different angles. I asked about my dog's food since he seemed to have trouble eating hard foods and Dr. Kumar's response was that he doesn't believe in natural dog food because "dogs in this country eat like kings compared to other countries" as if that justifies feeding my dog an unhealthy diet, not to mention that it wasn't an answer to my question. He even went as far as to say that "all dog food is the same." I brushed off that ignorance and mentioned my dog, Milo was periodically scratching and chewing around his legs and tail. He immediately grabbed the flea comb, brushed through my dogs fur maybe twice, and said he couldn't find fleas but to purchase some Front Line for $50 at the front desk. (I declined and walked across the street to purchase flea and tick medicine at Unleashed by PetCo.) Fast forward to today (about a week later), I noticed Milo's skin near his tail was bright pink and he had a couple of tiny scabs where he has been irritated. I can only assume he had this irritation when we went in for a his exam. Called up the animal hospital and asked if he could please consider this as a follow up to the free voucher since I can not afford a vet bill right now and Dr. Kumar did not bother to take care of this issue during the first visit. The man at the desk said, "You have to talk to the doctor, I can't answer that." (I don't understand why he could not just save me the trouble and "ask the doctor" himself.) I made an appointment and headed over not even knowing if this would cost me. I explained my situation to Dr. Kumar, and he rudely and unprofessionally went on an uninterrupted monologue about how he can't just "give out" free exams because he needs to pay his bills and run a business. He then explained how he's been trying to get his name off the city's list of vets that honor the free shelter vouchers because "when dogs leave the shelters, they already have their vaccines and are neutered so there is no reason for them to visit a vet." Translation: "I am not getting any money out of this so I don't care." I tried to explain to him the reason for the free checkup is to prevent issues like the skin infection my dog has right now but he didn't want to hear it - just continued to talk over me. I explained I'm not sure fleas are the issue considering that I bathed Milo with a flea shampoo and he has only been irritated in that one area since I brought him home - maybe he has some sort of allergy? Dr. Kumar went on and on about how its PROBABLY fleas without even considering other possibilities. I'm not even sure if he's aware of other pet issues beyond fleas and ticks. He took out the flea comb ONCE AGAIN and repeatedly said that he doesn't see any fleas. I left with FrontLine (surprise) and antibiotics... not even sure if this is the solution to my dog's problem. This man does not care about helping your animals unless your credit card hanging loose from your hand. He made it extremely clear that he's not making any effort with my dog if I can't pay for the visit. I am calling the shelter immediately to see if they can help me out with another voucher so I can take my dog to someone who cares. I WISH I DID NOT WASTE MY DOG'S FREE EXAM ON THIS QUACK.

I have been taking my cats to Dr. Kumar for 15 years. He goes above and beyond when it comes to the care of animals. At one time I had a very sick cat that because of Dr. Kumar's care and expertise lived about 3 more vital years than he would have under a less experienced doctor. If you are looking for a caring, expert staff and doctor take your pets to Sunset Animal Hospital. They're the best!

These reviews make me just sad. I have been taking my dog to Dr. Kumar for years and so has my husband with his dog. Dr. Kumar may be expensive but you pay what you get for ( only the best care) They check everything and are sure your dog is in perfect shape or on their way when they leave. He has performed multiple surgeries on my accident prone dog and I must say it was all worth it. And they always have gotten me in same day, never over crowed and in the case of an emergency is always available.

!!BEWARE!! I'll start by saying that Dr. Kumar and his staff do NOT listen to the customer at ALL, well at least not me. I called to make an appointment to have my 8 week old F2 Savannah kitten her 3-way shots and a general checkup. I specifically asked if they had killed vaccine shots. Savannah cats need to have killed vaccines, if given modified lived virus vaccines they will actually contract the virus and they will DIE! So anyhow, I called and the receptionist said they carry them.. so I went ahead and made an appointment. I go in for my appointment a few days later and guess what, they don't have the killed virus vaccines and they don't even cary them, not sure why the receptionist told me they had them. I wasn't too bothered by that even though they wasted my time coming in. Dr. Kumar's assistant told me they would order the shots I needed and I could come back in to have my Savannah vaccinated. A week later I brought her back in after being told the shots were in. Dr. Kumar comes in and I asked him about the shots and he proceeded to argue with me about how Savannah cats are fine being vaccinated with modified live virus vaccines which is totally not true. After going round and round with him how it's not safe he basically told me I didn't know what I was talking about. Needless to say I didn't have the shots done. They didn't even order the shots I needed and lied to me again after saying they had came in. I walked out of their office vowing to never visit his establishment again. This is a very serious concern because not only are they not listening and lying to their customers but Dr. Kumar was totally fine with wanting to give a kitten shots that would kill her. Thank God I knew exactly the type of shots my Savannah needed otherwise she would of been given improper vaccines that most likely would of resulted in her passing away. I will NEVER ever consider taking any animal of mine to Dr. Kumar even if it was a serious emergency. I'd highly suggest looking around for another more caring vet to help your pets stay healty. Thanks for wasting my time and almost killing my kitten in the process Dr. Kumar and his staff!

I was a witness to this which left a bad tast in my mouth. My girfrien had 2 cats which Dr. Kumar (the owner) knew since kittens, now over 15 years old, Bacall was diagnosed with cancer and refered to another Vet but everytime Natalie brought her to see Kumar he handed her huge bills, $400.00, $900.00 until the day she died at Kumar's hospital and he also handed her a bill of $900.00 some USD to revive her and died - a man with no heart for animals but a thirst for money. Not Okay - looks like rip off. I needed to go to Costa Rica for Vacation, brought my love birds a parraqueets, never advised me of the fact that he was going to charge me an exess of $600.00 for 8 days and treated them as "exotic birds" When confronted hung up the phone on Natalie.
