Our Pets are huge members of our Family. VCA offers; Great care. Wonderful Service. Excellent Results. To say their ophthalmology and neurology departments are the best, would be an understatement. Incredible staff, beautiful facilities...and if you think all of this great care and pristine environment comes for free. You would be sadly mistaken. There is a cost...as with everything, of great value. Worth every dollar.
One of the surgeons was recommended to me by my long time vet a couple of years ago when my 6 year old dachshund became paralyzed. I had read that it was crucial to undergo surgery as quickly as possible and within 2 hours Mr. Bingley was undergoing an MRI and in less than 6 hours was prepped for surgery to be done by a neuro surgeon. 1) Are they expensive? Yes. I thought at the time I was personally paying for their new state of the art facility. Now, after speaking with other dachshund owners who have actually paid out more for the surgery at other hospitals, I think their charges are still high, but, for the procedure and after care, not over the top crazy expensive. 2) Adequate staffing: The staff, from the associate at the front desk to the pharmacy to the vets and surgeons, they all have been helpful, responsive and caring. Though, I have had an issue now and then with the pharmacy calling me back regarding medication. Otherwise, when I call, when I come in for an appointment, my pet is taken care of in a timely manner 3)Knowledge: Not only is the new hospital "state-of-the-art", but all the staff is trained to deal with emergency situations. The have a gurney for goodness sakes. They are up on the latest procedures as well as acupuncture and hydrotherapy and have other methods of therapy available 4)I trust my old vet. He has been seeing my two dogs for their entire lives. However, he couldn't be expected to handle the emergency situation I found myself in. I don't regret paying for the expensive procedure so that Mr. Bingley could walk again. Were there other alternatives to surgery? Yes, and they discussed them with me. However, none that didn't mean the end to his mobility. 5) They do accept Care Credit and, for large amounts owed, use the 1 year payoff at 0%. That helped a great deal. Basically, with the VCA hospital in West Los Angeles, especially for emergency and/or complicated procedures, they are worth their slightly heftier cost. I am taking off a star because I still have issues getting responses from their pharmacy.
I've had nothing but great experiences with VCA West LA. Both of my dogs were diagnosed with cancer around the same time, and they've received wonderful treatment from Dr.'s Hazzah, Oakley, and Asken. When my little guy became too sick to save, Dr.'s Hazzah and Oakley sat with me in one of their private Rainbow Bridge rooms, loving on him, until he told us it was time to go. Their thoughtfulness and empathy made a very difficult decision a little easier to bear. They also sent me a sympathy card, and donated to the UC Davis Companion Animal Memorial fund in his memory. My other dog has been getting incredible treatment, and each Dr. has been understanding as to financial limitations, and they've worked with me on the best course of treatment that I can afford. To offset some of the cost, the Vets at the West LA clinic work with my regular Vet at the West Hollywood office, for procedures that can be done there for half the price. My little Cocker Spaniel has just finished radiation treatments, she is fat and sassy, and has more energy than I've seen in her in years. Yes, their prices are high, but the personal attention you and your pets get from every single person in the facility is well worth the price.
We have been taking our 13 year old dog to VCA West LA for 2 years now. First he had completely successful ACL surgery. Now he is having seizures from a brain tumor. We are frequently there in the middle of the night. We always receive prompt, excellent, kind and loving care. All of the staff is professional and caring. They are always fully staffed to handle ANY emergency. They also try to help contain costs - for example sending his prescriptions to Costco and allowing us to decide the cost/benefit before doing tests. Also, the doctors respond to emails in a timely manner. We are life long pet owning senior citizens. Been to countless vets over the decades. We travel 20 miles on the 405 to get to VCA West LA because they provide the BEST care we have ever found for any of our pets. Our dog is never afraid because all the staff just radiates a calm and loving energy (and he loves the bottomless treat jars) Added bonus - my husband loves the array of coffee and tea choices. Mixed bag of vets, some good, some incompetent. One of the latter gave steroids to my dog knowing it had heart problem, resulting in heart failure. In which vet manual one can give steroids to a patient with possibility of heart failure? Dog is dead. Vets got their money. Thank you vca.
