This place is great, the vet is straight forward about everything, which is what I want, I don't want someone to sugarcoat how my pets are doing. The receptionist is just as straightforward as the vet, which may turn some people away, but after a few visits she warms up to you. The clinic itself is small, clean, and quiet most of the day. The prices are fair, and they offer the first check up for free if you adopted from any pound in LA county. The assistance staff is great with the animals, very kind, and the animals just love them immediately. When you arrive at the Veterinary hospital, you'll notice there isn't actually much parking there, and the two spaces that are there are taken by the doctor and the receptionist, usually. Not to worry! There's metered spaces out front and just down the street, just be sure to push your driver side mirror in, I've seen crazy drivers sideswipe some of those mirrors right off if they're driving fast enough. When you step inside( PULL, DON'T PUSH), it'll be like any other clinic, clean and with a faint smell. The receptionist will ask your pets name then yours and ask when was the last time you were there. Pretty standard. She'll ask what the reason you're there is, then you'll take a seat and wait for at the most 5 minutes if it's empty, 15-20 if its busy. Dr. Fernandez will then call you or your pet's name and you'll step into the examination room one door down on the right. She is an incredibly professional vet who knows what she's doing and what she's saying. She will ask you questions about how your pet is doing and go over what you've told the receptionist. What I love about her is if you've been there before, she ACTUALLY REMEMBERS YOUR PET, and mentions something about the last time they were there, which to me is AWESOME! It's impressive when someone who sees dozens of animals a day can remember one pet a year later! I think it's mostly because of you, the owner though. Depending on the problem and what else may need to be taken care of, you'll be in and out in a matter of minutes. Once you're done with her, you go back to the receptionist, she'll type everything up and give you the invoice with whatever you owe.

I have taken our cat, and over time, three dogs, there for a total of 13 years now. Dr. Fernandez is competent, compassionate, and fairly priced. Last year we began taking our newest addition, a tiny Chi mix, and she was super careful about spacing out his vaccinations, and neutering him, because of his small size. She and her staff have taken excellent care of all four of our animals, explained things thoroughly to us, and come up with practical, least invasive solutions, e.g. medications when some vets I know might have recommended surgery just to line their pockets. Her staff is helpful and Benito, in particular, has a calming influence on our dogs. Dr. Fernandez will continue to be our vet as long as she continues to practice and as long as we have pets.

I have brought my cats to Dr. Fernandez since 1980, maybe earlier. She has always been kind and gentle with them, and as others have noted, straightforward with me. Christy, the receptionist, is the same way. I love the entire staff. The doc has spayed/neutered all three of my cats, removed a tumor from one, and put two to sleep. My last cat died 9/26/11 (in her sleep, bless her) so I haven't needed a vet since. I created a Google profile solely to post this review. Hello and much love to all at Wayfarer. I urge anyone reading this to trust your pet's care to this caring, skilled vet and her wonderful staff.

I love Dr. Fernandez. She's straight forward and tells it like it is. They've always taken very good care of my dogs and cat. She's performed surgery on my dogs twice (dental and removal of fatty lumps), and kept my IG for an extended period of time when he had a stomach virus. The dogs have always been well taken care of and both surgeries went smoothly with no complications. I've since moved to Pasadena but still make the trek to Silverlake to see Dr. Fernandez.
