I took my puppy in to get his vaccines and to sign him up for the wellness plan for the express purpose of getting his teeth cleaned (I also told the technician/vet assistant who helped me choose the correct plan exactly what I was getting said plan for). This cost me $88.90 to sign up for and another $39.95 each month for 11 months, which, at the time, seemed like a reasonable fee. I was advised by the staff to wait to get his teeth done until 6 months later, rather than doing it after his vaccines were finished. I had no reason to question this advice, so I didn't. Six months later I took him in to get his teeth done only to find out that they ran two of the three necessary bloodtests required for his dental cleaning 6 months earlier and I was going to have to pay out of pocket for the prelim bloodwork necessary to get his dental done since these tests are only covered once a year under my wellness plan. I was told said bloodwork would cost around $45 at the most, to which I agreed, though not happy with the situation at all. Unfortunately, one of the tests did not come back within the advised parameters for anesthesia, so I received a phone call telling me that $145 in bloodwork had been done and that they wanted to run another test costing $120 to proceed with his cleaning. I was seriously upset by Dr. T*****, who started off the conversation by telling me that the prelim bloodwork could suggest liver disease or even hepatitis, both of which could be fatal or require painful radiation therapy, and since my puppy is half yorkie he is genetically predisposed to having liver issues. In a state of near hysteria I jumped in my car and went to pick up my puppy. Upon arriving at Banfield, I was told that the results could, in fact, be indicative of a minor infection, as his white blood cell count was only slightly elevated and then was told that it looked very serious and I should really authorize them to do the additional testing immediately. Since this traumatic experience on Jan 31st, I have spoken to nearly half a dozen different employees at this location, all of whom have a different story to tell... I shouldn't have been charged for the bloodwork. I should have been charged for the bloodwork, but if I spend another $120 they will refund my $145 and finish his teeth. Bloodwork only really costs $45, but since the results weren't good, they automatically triple the price (my personal favorite, does that make sense at all?) To date I have spent nearly $550, not including supplements and medications I have gotten from Banfield and at this point I feel like I am just getting the runaround while they try to guilt trip me into giving them more money. Also, I called around to other vet clinics requesting specific pricing on the three bloodtests they run before the dental work, and the range of prices was $95 to $105, not $171.16 "discounted" to $145.48. Thinking that getting outside bloodwork might be in my best interest, I asked if the doctor would use results from another vet clinic and was told that, "she might possibly consider it" which, if my past experience is any indication, means "Go ahead and do the bloodwork, then when you come in we'll tell you it doesn't look right so we can charge you AGAIN for bloodwork that is supposed to be included in your dental cleaning!!!" I would advise anyone needing a good vet clinic to look at one of the others in the area. Most places offer pet wellness plans now to help make things easier on the budget, and I only wish I'd realized that before signing up with "corporate hell in a basket w/ a side of guilt trip." Also, the wait is always going to be anywhere from 1.5-2.5 hrs @ Banfield, for those of you who value your time.
A NIGHTMARE! I don't know how they keep getting rid of the bad reviews people have posted in the past on GoogleYahoo and other review sites about this God awful place as I know I wrote one in the past and there were at least five other horror story postings by other people as well. I understand that their hack British Doctor (and I use the term loosely) the Michael Myers of Veterinary medicine has packed up and left back for England. Good Riddance! Probably a wise decision before someone handed him out a vigilante just deserved retribution. The thought had crossed my mind a time or two! Gone or not I still will never take my baby boy back there again. That unfeeling callous hack chopped up my little Eskie's mouth like a piece of hamburger pulling nine teeth without my knowledge or permission! In my brief phone communication with him as he cut me off short Dr. Scumbag seemed obsessed only discussing my Master Card and the large amount my bill would be ducking my direct questions. I almost left the old lady for taking him there and giving them Cart Blanch in his treatment or I would have stuffed a lawsuit so far up their rectums they would have tasted their own breakfast! I was mad as hell at her for months after the incident. It wasn't the bill no matter how padded or least to say creative billing and charges were. It's a member of the family so you put that aside focusing on the prognoses. But I just knew that my little American Eskimo was put through hell with a lot of needless procedure and treatment just to pump up a bill. I never would have allowed such treatment without at least another qualified Veterinarian's opinion. He suffered at home for a week after and I called in a home mobile Veterinarian to come to the house I was so concerned. He would not express his feelings or comment on my Baby Boys treatment at Banfield after his examination of the work done but I could clearly see the disdain in his eyes. One of those code of ethics don't rat out your fellow Vet or whatever the reason. Any way you have been warned so it's your call. PERSONALLY I WOULDN'T TAKE MY LITTLE GUY BACK THERE IF THEY PAID ME! Banfield created a paranoid monster in me as I don't even allow him groomed without my being present to watch out for him.
