HORRIBLE Vet Techs! I feel so guilty putting my pet through an experience at Small Animal Hospital. I brought my pet in for a simple allergy shot that my pet has received numerous times from our vet in the Midwest. After the Vet gave the ok for the allergy shot she said, "The Vet Tech will be in to give the shot." This guy walks in and says, "Who gets to be the lucky one?" He meant who gets to hold the pet for the shot. My wife held our pet down and then this "Vet Tech" gave the shot. My pet almost jumped off table and made the loudest pain noise I have ever heard him make. After the shot I looked at the syringe and it was bent. The "Vet Tech" then said that was a "Normal" response. Wow! Where we are from the Doctors give the shots and the Vet Techs hold the animal. Normally the doctor will grab some fatty skin, pinch it, administer the shot, and we are on our way with the animal hardly knowing they received a shot. IF YOU LOVE YOUR ANIMAL DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE. As I write this I feel so guilty putting my pet through that experience.
I have always had a great experience with them and their staff. I work at Ruff House Pet Resort so we interact with them often because of vaccination verifications and administering medication for any sick dogs under our care. Last year my Bloodhound was bitten badly by a German Shepherd and she was taken to Small Animal for surgery. She had several stitches, a drain, and needed to recover quietly for 7 days. She looked so sad and her whole side was shaved where they had done the surgery. She recovered very quickly, never got any infection, and today you can't see a scar or would ever know she was injured. I am always happy to give them a great recommendation and have continued to hear very good reviews from all our customers that go to Small Animal Hospital.
To "Terry C" I understand what you mean. I actually use to work at another vet hospital off mission blvd, Dr. Butchko's animal hosptial, which was ran in a similar manner with many college students. As stated "many," these places tend to hire people left and right, so the staff is just QUANTITY, but not QUALITY. I have met some very incompetent women (especially women, not to hate my own kind, but have to be honest here) Not only can they not use common sense, they also lie constantly to the customers, and are always competing with other women in the work place instead of working as a TEAM. Having experience in the field, when I came into this particular office, I picked up on nothing but attitude and resentment. (Although- "In defense", did have a point, we don't give out exact amounts, and actually where I worked they wouldn't give anything out - stupid, especially when the customer is calling from LA. I normally gave them a reasonable estimation, and every single time it was in the ball park range of the actual price and they were very thankful for the info, especially when they are having to drive over an hour- I personally think it's important not to blow your customers off) By the way To "In defense" This wasn't neccesary- If you want to be a good owner and receive great medical care, sorry, it costs money. If you want to be cheap, (you shouldn't even own pets), then go to the humane society or shelter where they do a "quick snip" and your pet ends up with a number of health complications. I consider myself fairly wealthy, and I can tell you now, that good service doesn't have to cost that much money. All of my pets I own are adopted, and in excellent health. I actually take them to the shelter for their annual exams and shots, I also get great service from the Vets. Just as a reminder - a Vet is a Vet, they all went to school and are all very knowledgeable. Just because you work in a little fancy place isn't going to gaurantee good service. Word of advice - in general, when you are polite and respectful to someone, they will give you better service, this has been my experience so far, especially with doctors of all sorts.
