DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE! I never write reviews but I wanted to put out a warning to all pet owners who either come here or are thinking about it! Its a shame Google makes us put at least 1 star because he does not even deserve that. He pushes medicine and treatments on you that are NOT necessary! As a result, we have spent thousands of dollars on shots and meds for one of my dogs, and it resulted in the DEATH of my other dog. For my first dog, he had bad skin rashes and Dr Gill kept giving us pills to shove down the poor dogs throat every morning and he had to go back for expensive shots EVERY WEEK. We did this for 2 YEARS! Finally, when we felt it wasn't working and we were wasting our money, a friend of ours suggested we change his food. WITHIN 2 DAYS AFTER CHANGING HIS FOOD THE RASHES WERE COMPLETELY GONE! So not only did the vet get away with a lot of our money, we put our poor little old dog through so many stressful vet visits for NOTHING! Second, we brought in our chihuahua because of chest inflation, he couldn't loose weight, and his breathing sounded nasally. We thought he might have a heart problem, cancer, or possibly a bad cold. Dr Gill said he was COMPLETELY 100% HEALTHY. All he told us was to put him on a diet and exercise him and his weight will go down and his breathing with stabilize. He also COMPLETELY PUSHED a deep teeth cleaning on his teeth to prevent heart disease since chihuahuas are especially susceptible to it. So, because we love and take care of our baby, we trusted the vet and did what he said. Turns out he didn't make it through the anesthesia because he had an underlying heart condition that the vet didn't bother checking for and completely missed. If he was a good vet he would have seen that after running the tests. Why would he suggest a teeth cleaning and not an MRI based on his symptoms? BECAUSE HE JUST WANTS YOUR MONEY. He doesn't care about the animals. And now our baby had to go to heaven a little earlier than he was meant to :( I hope to get the word out so that nobody else takes their animals here! And certainly do NOT put your dog through a deep cleaning requiring anesthetics no matter what vet it is.. only do it if your animal is in a life/death situation. I have recently learned that it is a huge scam. Simply give your dog a bone and refrain from wet food b/c wet food builds more plaque. That's ALL he had to tell us. I'm very angry and upset.

I have been going to Dr. Gill for over 20 years. He has saved the lives of many of my animals over that time through his experience, testing and treatments! My dog almost died after Valentine's Day years ago because she ate an entire pound of chocolate with the tin foil on that my roommate left on the floor. I rushed her in and they pumped her stomach and used charcoal to absorb it with tubing down her throat, which saved her life. I've had several cats with cancer, and he's referred me for chemotherapy to an excellent specialty hospital in San Marcos and San Diego, called Veterinary Specialty Hospital. If he were in it for the money, he would have done some of the work and additional testing himself, but he wanted me to use their advanced facility for my animals' best chance. He always gets me in when I call, and when I have an emergency, he's there for me every step of the way. After difficult procedures, he calls at night and asks how my pets are doing...because he cares. I moved to Menifee 10 years ago (which is 1 hour and longer in traffic, northeast of San Diego) and found so many incompetent vets up here and it's such a joke how inexperienced they are in this town, that I continue to go back down to San Diego because I know Dr. Gill has the advanced knowledge and experience most vets do not have. He knows I have been looking for a GREAT vet like him up here and has NO problem with that at all, because he wants the best for my animals and their comfort. He knows it's a long drive down and back home for them. I think many people, based on the reviews I've read on Yelp, misinterpret Dr. Gill's calm, extremely professional demeanor. If you are looking for a vet that gives you a hug and makes you feel warm and fuzzy and laughs with you, then perhaps Dr. Gill is not for you. But, over the last 20 years, I have gotten to know him and joked with him quite a bit. His wife is so sweet and his children are just as smart as he is! He has a GREAT personality, but I go there because other vets are cold, rude and ARE only in it for the money. I had a horrible vet in Menifee tell me to euthanize my pet if I didn't have the money!!! My dog is only 3 years old! Dr. Gill would NEVER, EVER tell me that!!! I have literally had an advanced education on so many different conditions that my animals have gone through (I've had up to 19 animals at one time and now have 14). He writes you prescriptions if you can find them less expensive online or at a local pharmacy, so if he's in it for the money, why would he do that? His prescription prices are extremely reasonable though. I ask A LOT of questions with vets now, and most get annoyed that I know so much about various conditions and treatments. They prefer ignorant patients who just do what they say and "pay the fees" without question. If you were getting surgery, you'd get another opinion and do your own research for your health. I do the exact same thing for my pets. It's hard for some of my animals to drive 70 miles each way, because they get car sick. Dr. Gill knows I want to find a vet closer to home, but I haven't yet because they just don't have the experience he does. Experience MATTERS. One day I might find someone as great as Dr. Gill, but it's been 10 years and he's still THE BEST vet in San Diego you can find! Vets cost money, by the way, and you might find one with cheaper prices elsewhere, but after 20 years and many of my "kids" lives saved, I do the tests Dr. Gill recommends so he can know what my animals need to be healthy and happy. I implore everyone...ask questions, a lot of them, no matter who you go to. I can only share my stories with you and tell you that I would trust Dr. Gill to operate on ME, because he's that good! Thank you, Dr. Gill, for being there for me and my "kids" for over 20 years now. God Bless!

I've used a lot of vets over the years. Dr. Gill is the best. My 100lb Rhodesian Ridgeback has a lot of problems. Another vet almost killed her after a simple spay procedure. Dr. Gill has addressed my dog's food allergies, incontinence, warts, and always provided information about cost and options. For every office visit, whether there is health problem or not, Dr. Gill always takes out a check sheet and shows exactly what he is going to charge before he does anything. The best part is, he doesn't treat you like an idiot. He explains things in layman's terms, but in depth so you know exactly what is going on with your pet.

We have known this doctor since 1995 and have been going here since. He has known our dog since she was a puppy and has been amazing to her. Dr. Gill is an amazing doctor and always helps us as we need him. He is thoughtful and caring and is better than any other vet we've known. You should most definitely come here if you love and care for the well being of your pet

I've read the other reviews, some are excellent and some bash the hospital for prices. Two comments. First, we have seen both the vets. Both are gentle, compassionate and take the time to clearly explain what's going on, review test results, etc. Office staff have always been polite and professional. Second, having taken our pets to various vets over the years, these docs DO NOT push unnecessary tests or suggest unecessary treatment. Their prices are extremely reasonable. Remember, it's harder to get into vet school than med school, takes just about the same amount of years in training, and if you compare vet charges with MD charges you would realize they are not even in the same league. If you aren't willing to take care of your pet, you shouldn't own one.
