STAY AWAY! THIS PLACE IS A RIP OFF! We brought our cat in who had been attacked by a coyote. They put her in a O2 chamber for 10 hours before they even thought about doing any emergency surgery. Shocker, she died during surgery. We got charged over 1,700 dollars to let our cat sit in a O2 chamber and die. This place is a complete scam. STAY AWAY! THIS PLACE WILL RIP YOU OFF! I pray no family has to go thru what we did with these scam artist.
i worked for this particular office a few years back and loved working there... i witnessed actual caring and compassion for animals and their humans that i dont see very often elsewhere. i wish they were a regular vet office so i could take my fuzzy, four legged family members to them on a regular basis but they're not. someone mentioned in a prior review: "but I've found their staff to EXTREMELY pushy about getting your approval for expensive and often unnecessary lab tests. I have to believe the staff receives a commission for each lab test they sell." just to let u know, THIS OFFICE RECEIVES NO KICKBACKS FOR THE LABS THEY DO. all of the labs are done on site and at the recommendation of the vet. the vet on duty actually puts the recommendation/proposal of procedures together themselves and the techs present them to the patient's owners. the techs do not put the proposals together at all. this office is not about financial gain, it is about making reasonably priced emergency vet care available at times when all other vets offices are closed and would charge much, much higher rates to come in for a procedure after hours (and on holidays!) i have had my fuzzy guys/gals taken care of by this er and will keep going back for emergencies even tho i live 90 miles away now... why go anywhere else that's going to jack up the prices for after hour care? and yes, i am partial but have also had terrific personal experiences before and after working there.
I made the fatal mistake of taking my german shepherd to this facility. This is the same facility that euthanized another one of my german shepherds several years ago, I was not upset at them than because she had cancer and there was nothing they could do. On this occasion I went there in the middle of the night and I am pretty sure I woke the lady up that helped me, she looked very sleepy and irritated. After explaining that my dog is very restless, she took us in the rear where we weighed the dog and into an examination room where she wanted to take my dogs temperature. She said he is bleeding from the rectum, I asked, "what does mean"? She than repeated louder, "it means that he is bleeding from the rectum". I think she was upset that my dog made the floor dirty so I cleaned it up when she left to wake up Dr. Foltz. When Dr. Foltz came in he wanted to do just under $1,000.00 worth of test which was okay, I just wanted my dog saved (as I understand they always run $1000.00 worth of test no mater what the problem). As I read later about bloat (what my dog died of) has the second highest cause of death. My dog was drinking lots of water, his stomach was full of gas and puffy, he could not defecate no mater how much he tried, and the reason I took him in was because he was very restless, this was enough information for the doctor to know what to do. The x-rays that they took showed that my dog had gas in the stomach, yet they never inserted a tube to relieve the pressure. Dr Foltz said we should just take him to his vet in the morning. I knew my dog and knew there was something wrong, that is why I took him to the EMERGENCY room in the middle of the night in the first place. I was not sure what to do. I waited till the VCA opened next door and they knew immediately what to do. The problem was that there was so much gas that it cut off the blood supply to his intestines and after opening Enzo up there was nothing they could do because the intestines died. Enzo was euthanized at 11:00 or so. This place just opens at night when you can't go to your vet, runs lots of unneeded tests and is useless, they always tell you to go to your vet at the end anyway and look at you like it is your problem that you don't know what is wrong with your dog. If I could do something over I really wish I had gone elsewhere, I keep thinking about that. I am not a vengeful person, the reason I am writing this is because if I had I gone elsewhere Enzo would be alive today. Dr. Foltz can not make good decisions in the middle of the night when he is sleepy. Dr. Foltz has a family with two kids, I am sure he spends time with them in the daytime (he saves his sleep for work).
I've used Animal ER on 2 occasions. The doctors gave my dogs good care in both instances, but I've found their staff to EXTREMELY pushy about getting your approval for expensive and often unnecessary lab tests. I have to believe the staff receives a commission for each lab test they sell. They take advantage of pet owners who are emotionally distraught over their pets health. Upon arrival at the hospital, the vet will examine your pets condition, then leave the exam room and a staff member will return. The staff member will tell to you sign a form with an often lengthy list of procedures, lab tests, and medications before they can help your pet. They pile on unnecessary charges knowing that most owners are distraught and anxious to see their pet well again. If you question the need for the any of the costs, the staff member will tell you this is what the doctor wants requires and you should not question it. Again, I do not question the doctors ability at Animal ER. I only question their priorities and moralities. Are they more interested in your pets health or lining their pockets with money from emotional pet owners who are easy prey?
