Dr. Chung is AMAZING... And, so is his staff!! I found him by accident about 4 years ago. To the person who called him a RIP OFF - My daughter insisted that we bring in a very young rabbit that my cat had brought home. Unbelievably, Dr. Chung cauterized the ear where the rabbit had been bitten and provided antibiotics. He did this all for FREE, yes completely FREE. At this point in time, we had only seen him for our dog one time. He also, euthanized another baby rabbit that the cat brought home on a different occasion. These weren't even our pets and he cared and he didn't charge for either instance. I certainly do not expect a vet to work for free! But, he always provides a written estimate of what he recommends and he will work with you on the course of treatment. I have used other vets in that area and no one compares. In fact, we now live in North Park and drive all of the way up there any time one of our animals needs a vet!!
My name is Dr. Robert Chung, DVM and I am the owner and veterinarian at Rancho Bernardo Veterinary Clinic. The review that was written previous to this one was submitted by a gentleman after he had phoned my staff with concerns regarding his gravely ill, elderly cat at home. After recommending that he bring in his sick cat for an exam and prompt treatment, this person refused our recommendation and became belligerent, profane and abusive. I can only hope that he acted out in this way due to his anxiety and stress regarding his loved pet, just as the feeling of helplessness and despair can affect any of us. I especially hope that he was able to seek proper veterinary care for his ill cat and that he didn’t “take his chances at home” as he describes. I only hope for the best for him and (especially) his poor cat.
Dr. Chung and his staff treated my 5-year-old German Shepherd for lack of appetite and lethargy. Blood tests indicated an infection and a lack of key hormones (Addison's disease). She did not respond to treatment for these problems and I was referred to a specialist. An ultrasound revealed extensive tumors in her spleen, pancreas and heart; fungal or bacterial damage to her spine was found in the X-ray. She declined rapidly and passed away because these conditions were very advanced and she was so weak. Even with this outcome, I was very pleased with Dr. Chung and his staff. Dr. Chung spent a lot of time with me going over the lab results and explaining his diagnosis and treatment plan. They responded very quickly to my phone calls and were available to see us right away, even outside of regular office hours. Upon her death, they were very supportive at this difficult time. I can look back at this sad event and know that Dr. Chung and his staff did everything in their power to get my dog healthy, and I would recommend RB Veterinary Clinic to anyone.
Dr Chung is indeed caring HOWEVER from the time we started taking our pets there to current, his pricing has gone up tremendously. They started out reasonably priced and with each visit the price went up. To trim the toenails on my cat in 2010 was $14, each time we went in the price went up (mind you, our cat according to the staff was very well behaved and not a problem to trim) Today to have toenails trimmed on the cat can run as high as $35!! Depending on if the cat is cooperative or not. I'm sorry I refuse to pay an increasing amount on a cats toenails and $35 is robbery especially when you can take your cat to PETCO and pay $10 for the same exact toenail trim job. Unfortunately I have had to change vets due to the regular increase in his pricing since first visiting him. I think he lures in new patients with lower pricing then with each visit he raises his price. He's a nice vet and he is caring and his staff is nice but his pricing is very unreasonable. I won't return unless there's a dire emergency and I have no other option.
The new owner Robert Chung is just not as caring or interested in ways the old vet (now deceased) did. Personally, I would prefer to take my chances at home than trust this guy. There are other vets who care about your pet, not just collecting the money.
