I realize everyone has a different experience. A wonderful dog of ours had a massive stroke seven years ago. We all agreed the best for her was to put her down. They were extremely kind and sympathetic, giving me as much time with her as I needed. A few years later another dog of ours was hit buy a car, and broke her pelvis. The vets helped keep her alive until we could get her to a major vet surgery location in Ventura. My experiences with Saugus Animal Hospital have been excellent.
If you LOVE your pets DON'T take them here! I brought my sick Boxer in. Before getting to talk to the doctor my dog was put in another room and I was presented with a Estimate of $680 before hearing a word of explanation. Xrays, Blood test, and I'Vs. I asked to talk with the "doctor*" who was younger than me (28) who aproached me hearlessly and said her stomach was bleeding. (obviously they went ahead with something before I signed anything) They stuck a needle in her stomach to find it was indeed bleeding for $250. Then she said my dog would not make it through the night and I should put her down (I was devastated, doc was heartless) she gave me time to make up a decision to put her down. I refused and said I would take her home, she said "I HIGHLY recomend you don't take her home, it will be harder on the dog".... I took her home anyways and loved her through the night, made her a nice steak and fed her what I thought to be her last meal. My family said their goodbyes and I was planning on loosing my best friend that night. Later that night my dog pooped...... AND NOW SHE IS FINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's been almost two weeks and the Dick head overpriced doctor tried to kill her because she was sick. My dog is running around happier than ever. now every time I look at her I get pissed off I almost let this "hospital" take her life for no reason. DO NOT GO HERE!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!!! It is a rip off in pricing and professional approach. And extremely unperson-able and un-caring. They want money, not family and animal companions to build a relationship with.
Dr. Laura is great with animals, very knowledgeable and very caring. She has put down two of our oldest dogs when their time came with great gentleness and does a great job with out two current boxers. Genuinely loves and cares for animals.
We brought our dog in for euthanasia and had a horrible experience. The vet could not find our dog's vein and jabbed around inside of him with the needle. causing him to cry out in pain. He tried with the other leg and still could not find it. At the point, Buddy was anxious and scared. We asked if they could give him something to calm him and they said they could only put him under and that giving him valium would not help. When we mentioned that other vet we ha gone to gave a calming injection before euthanasia, the vet tech got defensive and snippy. They finally took him in the back to insert a catheter after failing to find his vein, and the vet tech had to insert it because the vet could not do it. After Buddy was finally euthanized, we called other vets to ask if they gave calming injections before euthanasia, and got a yes from several different vets. Overall it was a horrible experience. Buddy died scared and was hurt by the vet, and the staff was very unsympathetic and rude. I will never go back there, and I never want any other animal or owner to have to go through what we did. Euthanasia is supposed to be a relief for the animal, helping them to avoid unnecessary discomfort in their final days. This was exactly the opposite.
This place is a joke. Lazy staff that will put you on hold if you call. They charge outrageous prices. My dog had an allergic reaction to a vaccine and I had taken her to a place in Camarillo. It was a spay neuter clinic. I called them and they called Saugus animal hospital to give my dog a benadryl shot. They would not waive the ridiculous $100 office visit on top of the Benadryl shot for almost $100. I went to the store and bought baby Benadryl and with the orders of the other clinic, gave him the dose and within an hour he was fine. My dog has a permenantly disfigured face because these people are so greedy. They have no heart. They are in the business to make money and they prey on pet owners that have no other way to help their animals. Their spay was around $1000. I got it in Oxnard/Camarillo for $76 dollars. They do have a vaccine clinic that is reasonable but do not go here, Go anywhere else. TAGS is great for vaccines and they give you free exams if you go there whenever your pet does not feel good!
