Excellent care. My dog Melott had recently gone nearly blind with cataracts. This doctor is very popular, busy and does great work. I completely understood when I was there why the doctor didn't have time to conference in my wife. It surprises me anyone could say anything unkind about this doctor, staff or hospital. The eye surgeon and staff were nothing but completely efficient. I got a very thorough report of what my dog needed which my wife had no trouble understanding. The report on Melott was faxed immediately to my vet before I even left. We knew there was a real problem when Melott had trouble going down the stairs. However, when she fell in the pool at my friend's house we realized how serious this was. Before this she would lie around the house extremely depressed. When I took her to the vet, I was referred to eye specialist Dr. Silverman -- several friends of ours have come here also. Melott needed cataract surgery in both eyes. One thing I liked about the doctor here is that he puts lenses in the dogs eyes and doesn't change extra for his time or the lens to do this. The lens allows for greater accuracy of vision. Our friend had to pay several hundred dollars more to have lenses put in each eye of her dog. This ophthalmologist attempts to do this based on the health of the eye and does not charge an extra fee. It seems the back part of the eye has to be intact to support the lens. If the capsule is diseased, the eye won't support the lens. Sometimes the lens can't be put in due to the disease already present in the dog's eye. This is different in every dog -- however this doctor has a lot of success with artificial lenses. Cataract surgery has a 95% success rate. Some doctors don't even put in artificial lenses at all. Even if the eye is not stable enough to support a lens, the dog still retains vision and is able to see, with faraway vision better than seeing close up. Dr. Silverman was able to put lenses in both of Melott's eyes and the agility she has regained is terrific. We were back the next day which is the doctor's policy to be sure everything is all right. -- Melott is seeing beautifully. The first night was a little challenging for my wife who slept downstairs with Melott to be sure she didn't get over excited which would have hurt the surgery. With the month of free rechecks there is no way any dog not retaining vision would go unnoticed. This doctor is very careful and extremely thorough. Of course, a dog could go blind with time and if the owner did not return for rechecks for the doctor to check the eyes. Dogs are living individuals -- they get older just like people. It is important to keep the E collar on and follow the doctor's instructions for healing. Now that Melott's vision is completely restored her agility training can continue. I was thrilled to see her run, jump fences, and maneuver beautifully through obstacles. What a difference! She is a happy and well - adjusted member of the family again. I would highly recommend this eye surgeon, staff and hospital.

If you are contemplating cataract surgery for your pet, please read this amazing story, as it will put your concerns to rest! The reward in restoring sight is an unbelievable feeling for both you and your pet. We know, we just experienced the incredible gift of sight by Dr. Silverman, who is such a caring doctor. Lucy is our 6-year-old small breed Havanese who lost her sight because of cataracts in both eyes. The journey to restore Lucy's vision began about a year ago. We live in eastern LA County and found Dr. Silverman, who's office is about two hours drive and he is certainly worth every minute we waited in LA traffic. When Lucy's sight was lost, our family was heartbroken. Why did we choose Dr. Silverman, instead of an ophthalmologist veterinarian near our home? Simply put, Dr. Silverman's compassion and expertise! At the onset of her cataracts, Lucy was in excruciating pain and the only ophthalmologist vet near our home would not see her for a week. At the peak of her pain we called Dr. Silverman's office at about 9 pm expecting an answering service. Instead, and to our surprise Dr. Silverman answered the phone. He informed us what to do during the night and immediately scheduled an examination the very next morning when his office opened. Dr. Silverman examined Lucy but did not recommend surgery at that point, but treated her condition. A year later, she was blind in both eyes and it was time to make a decision about cataract surgery. We were uncertain about the outcome of cataract surgery or if we wanted to put her through the surgery and rehab. Here is just one example of why we are so happy we decided for surgery. Before my oldest Son left for school, Lucy could identify him by sight and voice. Within a year's time, Lucy could no longer identify him unless he spoke to her. We also saw a change in Lucy's temperament and her loss of vision was definitely decreasing her quality of life. She stopped running, would walk into walls and furniture. She was skittish with noises and would sit in the middle of the floor because of her confusion. We opted for surgery because she was changing and was not a happy dog. The surgery was amazing! Dr. Silverman informed us that we had the hardest job in keeping up with medication after surgery and keeping Lucy calm for 3 weeks. It was challenging to say the least, but worth the effort. During the 3rd week post-op, we took a trip to San Francisco to see my Son and took Lucy along. The defining moment was when my Son approached us and Lucy stared. Before my Son spoke Lucy realized that the two were reunited, her tail began wagging and she began jumping out of excitement. It was an incredible moment to realize that restoring her vision led to her once again connecting with her family. With each passing day since surgery, Lucy is becoming that happy dog again and it shows. If you are considering cataract surgery, consider the gift of sight for both you and your pet. Dr. Silverman is amazing so look no further for a skilled ophthalmologist surgeon! Thank you Dr. Silverman you and your staff are amazing!

My dog had cataracts -- he started walking into walls. This eye specialist was able to run a test while I waited to see if surgery would help. The test confirmed my dog was a good candidate for surgery. The ophthalmologist was kind, had a good sense of humor, and put me at ease. I wish my human doctor was this good. The surgery went well, was done in one day, and my dog is seeing great now. Also the price was reasonable and I got a month of free rechecks. This doctor is extremely talented and conscientious of his work. I have to agree with the other reviewers -- if you need cataract surgery for your dog this is the place to go. Dr. Silverman is caring, generous with his time, explained everything thoroughly and is an ethical man who obviously loves his work and the animals he treats. And the result! For my nearly blind Boston Terrier to suddenly see is a miracle. My challenge was keeping my dog calm after the surgery in the post operative period. He has a lot of energy. I was so grateful for the free rechecks that month. There were a few times I called the hospital when I was worried I could have done something wrong with the medicines in the post operative time. Dr. Silverman was with me every step of the way. Even after hours. When I was concerned through the month, Dr. Silverman got me right into the office for a check up -- all I had to do was call. The eye specialist did a full exam -- and, of course this was all included in the surgery fee. All surgeries at Complete Animal Eye Care Center have one month of free rechecks no matter how many times your dog or cat needs to be seen. This is so refreshing when it seems like people just want to make money and don't really care. I did not ever feel pushed into doing surgery on my dog. The eye specialist simply laid out the options. I decided it was important to do the surgery. Especially when my dog was shown to be a good candidate. If the testing wasn't good the doctor would not have done surgery. He is very careful. It is clear this doctor's heart is in the right place. If I called in the middle of the day, his receptionist took a message -- he returned my calls at the end of the work day -- even if it was late, sometimes after 6:00 or 7:00 at night! I had a very good experience here. When you are scared because your dog is on the verge of going blind, it is important to be seen by someone who not only listens and cares, but has the skill, knowledge and experience to treat the problem with kindness and understanding. This veterinary eye doctor thinks of the owners and patients. He is has a rare mix of compassion and amazing talent. I will always be grateful.

Beware. I paid over $5000 for a surgery that did not work. The doctor even said that this is a new lens and I'm the first to try it on my dog but when the lens did not work he blew me off and even charged me over $200 for another exam. $5000 went to the trash. Law suit on it's way...

We needed an animal eye veterinary specialist when our puppy Jett got a serious eye infection after going to her groomer in Los Angeles. The soap they used got in her eye. We were referred to veterinary ophthalmologist Dr. Silverman. This animal eye specialist met us on a Sunday and took care of the infection. Our call went right through to him directly on his emergency line even though the animal eye care clinic itself was not open. The redness and swelling in Jett's eye looked very painful. The animal ophthalmologist met us one hour after we called. We got to Sherman Oaks quickly from Los Angeles on the 405 freeway. It was very clear how dedicated this animal eye doctor is to his clients and animals.
