They're good IF you can pay the full price. I used them once, $3000 dollar bill paid in full, and they're your great buddy. I paid 3K to drain an abscess that formed under my kitty's eye, after several vets couldn't figure out what was happening. More recently a friend of mine (full time student) was $300 short on a $4000 emergency bill on a saturday night even after borrowing from Peter Paul and Mary to save the kitty, and they rejected his kitty and let him die, because they wanted the money up front. Wouldn't wait for a monday transfer even with 90% paid. They were 'uncomfortable because it was not an established patient'. What kind of a place that touts itself as emergency care expects established patients??? Letting a kitty die by refusing a life saving treatment in the middle of the weekend night over 10% price difference even with the backing of one of the largest private rescues in OC, which spends in excess of 35K a month on veterinarians and the primary vet pleading for the kitty. Extremely greedy and compassion given only for full price up front. I've never seen a vet who wouldn't work with someone in a case like this, and being a rescue volunteer, I interact with vets quite a bit.
My Abby was diagnosed with Carcinoma Pulmonary. The staff at VSS made us feel welcome and put our minds at ease when they explained how they were going to help us. During my visit Dr. Tony Cambridge said that my precious Abby was healthy other than her tumor and that he didn't see any problems with having the surgery. On Surgery day we met Gaby who was extremely helpful the entire day. I received updates and a photo of my Abby reassuring me that everything was okay. Abby is home now, she came home happy which means she likes the staff and that is always a good sign that they love their jobs. I highly recommend Veterinary Surgical Specialists for all of your pets needs.
Dr. Tony Cambridge is the kind of orthopedic specialist you want to work with, when faced with tough situations relating to your beloved pet. I would know because I have worked with him through the life (and sad passing) of my German Shepherd dogs. Dr. Cambridge was very thorough in understanding the root of each issue and recommended a course of action that was least aggressive first. To Dr. Cambridge, surgery is the last resort following unsuccessful attempts to remedy the situation through less aggressive measures. In fact, although I spent a great deal of time in his office, we never had to go through a surgery with any of my dogs. This is why I absolutely love him. And would 100% recommend him and the staff at Veterinary Surgical Specialist to anyone who asks.
Our dog Scout had one ripped and one torn ACL. Our vet suggested we take him to Veterinary Surgical Specialists to see what out options were. We spoke to Dr. Peter Sebestyen, and he was very kind and patient with us and Scout. He took great care to answer our questions, and spent a lot of time explaining everything to us. Scout was very well taken care of by Dr. Sebestyen and the staff members. The receptionists were always very friendly when we called and/or came in for our appts. It's a tough decision to make to send our pet in for surgery, but we felt very confident with the team at VSS.
Maggie is a therapy dog and a service dog, so she needs to be able to walk comfortably. We were informed through the whole process and we were able to speak to the nurses during the night, which made us feel much better. They made sure her pain was controlled completely, which made the healing process so much easier for her. The care she recieved was above and beyond what we expected. The staff is very professional and the surgeons are the best. Maggie's knee is now better than it has ever been. We highly recommend Veterinary Surgical Specialists for all of your animal's needs.
