Horrible !!! I was put in a waiting room for 40 minutes and the place wasn't even that busy. Naturally I left. As I was leaving there was a Mercedes parked by the back door that wasn't there when I arrived. Therefore I don't think a Doctor was even in the building during most of my wait. Everybody has a right to go to lunch but it would nice to be told about a possible wait time. If there's a better excuse I'd like to hear it.
READ ALL THEIR FILTERED REVIEWS ON YELP THEY ARE TRYING TO HIDE. They have over 25 NEGATIVE reviews. Biggest mistake ever in coming here. I regret it because it was such a waste of $600. It was a couple of Sundays ago and my dog woke up vomiting and weak. Towards the end of the day I was worried because he wasn't neither hungry nor active at all. I wanted to wait till the next day to take him to his regular doctor, but out of concern, I took him that day. We get to the hospital and the vet did a physical examination and said he needed blood work, xrays, pancreatic test, and an ultrasound right away all for a starting price of $600. Ya RIGHT! That was too much so I agreed to doing just the blood test. After that, the vet explained that my dog had hepatitis and it was very serious. The technician gave me an invoice for $2000!!! The vet suggested my dog stays overnight, gets on IV fluids, and needed all these extra tests to make sure it's not a tumor and so on. I explained I wasn't made of money so they tried to convince me to sign up for a care credit card. NO THANKS. So then she came back with another option that would cost $1000. I know when I get the stomach flu I don't get xrays, ultrasounds, and stay overnight. You guys are crazy! Give me antibiotics and some pain medication and let me leave. So from that point on the girl was completely rude and she came back again with 2 more options that would cost either 800 or 600. OMG! At that point I just wanted to take my dog and leave. After contemplating what I should do, the technician tried to put more guilt on me and said "your dog is really sick, he already threw up twice in the back." I doubt that! My dog hadn't thrown up in the past 10 hours, all of a sudden hes vomiting uncontrollably in the back room? I was SOOO annoyed and frustrated because I felt the only way to leave that place was to give them money. So I went with the $600 plan which included the blood test, fluids, injections, and take home medication, not to mention a paper they made me sign stating they were not responsible for whatever happens because I'm taking my dog home against doctors orders. Give me a break! The next day he was still sick so I took him to his regular vet. She told me all he needed was time and to make sure he took his meds. She was also kind enough to give me donated medication for his stomach and more fluids for my dog all for free, because she understood the definition of a budget. I'm a 24 year old full time student. You think I have $2000 laying around, let alone $600? Within 2 days he was eating again, and by 3 days he was PERFECTLY fine. It's been over 2 weeks since the incident and my dog has not shown any signs of illness. Thank you Chaparral Pet Hospital in Claremont. Honestly the best vet ever! I will NEVER return to this hospital because they use vulnerable emergency incidents to guilt you and get your money. Sure I could have paid the $2000, the staff would have been really nice, my dog would have gotten better, and then maybe my review would have sounded like all the rest of the positive reviews on here, but I'm already upset they made even 600 off me. Go elsewhere if you can!
The Dr told me the only way he would save my dog from parvo is if I can $1000 on me and I told him I didn't then he said then I need to put him to sleep I asked if I could take him home and try some stuff at home and he told me he would call the human.society on me si I had no.choice but to put my baby down :(
I honestly wish I could rate less than one star. I am-over a decade-a long time pet professional in the area. Dogs are my "business". I've networked with countless vets and try to give many the benefit of the doubt so this review was not made out of ignorance or due to a misunderstanding. Driving home from work late one Saturday, I saw a husky on the side of the fwy, hit by a car. She needed immediate attention. I was hesitant to come here due to previous things I've heard from clients but it was the closest place and it was an emergency. On the way there, I contacted a rescue I am affiliated with and was able to get funding for the husky's care. When I pulled up, I asked for help moving her from my backseat. The techs were more than willing until a vet came out and demanded to know where I found her. I told her, and they promptly tried to show me the door and refuse treatment because "they don't treat animals from there". Direct quote. I reminded the vet that we were able to pay. Begrudgingly, they caved. (Apparently the $$ is the motivating factor.) The waiting room was empty yet it took HOURS to be seen. All the while I could hear the husky girl whining in pain. No one asked after her. When they finally got around to helping us, they determined quickly she had 2 broken legs but no internal or life threatening injuries. Both legs were shattered and needed surgery. The quote they drew up for surgery for both legs was around the $4000 mark-about the going rate for such surgeries. As I'm acquainted with an actual orthopedic specialist we opted to simply board her for one day and manage her pain meanwhile until we could transfer her to the other vet. The entire transaction consisted of boarding for one night, a set of X-rays (which had to be redone later they were so inept), and fluids/pain meds. Also, 3 superficial stitches to close up some road rash. The grand total? Over TWO THOUSAND dollars. When I protested and said it was ridiculous they tried to tell me it was normal ($700 for an overnight stay? She was sedated and in a crate!!!). It would have been cheaper to actually get her surgeries there-by someone who couldn't even take x-rays correctly! For some perspective, the specialist I took her to conducted 2 surgeries for only a few hundred dollars more than the entire bill from this place. I also tried coming by to visit multiple times during the 24 hrs while she was there and was turned away each time. I was treated like an afterthought; brushed off completely and almost turned away every time I voiced a need, and then they turned around and robbed me blind. Keep in mind this wasn't even my dog, just trying to be a Good Samaritan! I couldn't believe that the rescue and I were treated as such. It was beyond uncaring and ludicrous. It's absurd to me they get away with "caring" for their patients like this. Please, PLEASE, if you are thinking of going here, continue on a few blocks to VCA Central. I wish I did. I will never, NEVER come here again. I posted this on Yelp as well, but as they pay for Yelp to filter out their negative reviews, customers don't get the whole picture. Hopefully this will help someone.
