I see everyone complaining about cost. Before we took our 3 cats to The Cat Doctor for shots and flea control we called around. They were the cheapest. They treated us with respect. Cared and loved our cats and called us EVERY week to check up on them to make sure they are doing Ok. I have never had a vet be so persistent in caring about our kitties. Seems like what a lot of you only care about is the cost to care for your babies. If you can't afford it maybe you shouldn't have pets until you can afford to pay for their medical. You say all they care about is money, so far all I'm reading from you people is about money. Would you complain about you pediatrician like this if your child was sick. These people are awesome. I really feel sorry for your pets if your not willing to go to the extent to make sure they live long healthy lives. And the part where you looked down on the DR because they will get to your pet when there is an available slot. If you had no appointment then it is first come first serve. Your cats aren't the only ones who need medical attention, don't get down on the DR because he is busy.
Overall seemed very caring for my pets, they keep in touch, one of the better veterinarians I have been too. My kitties give them two dew claws up. :)
thank you for the review...I was just about to take my doctor to The Cat Doctor ..something told me they were about money with all of the fancy equipment and having two offices ...they appear nice on the phone but I have been sucked out of a lot of money in the past so I decided to find reviews...I am sure you saved my old cat all the suffering..when I called them they said I could drop him off and when the doctor had time will see my cat and call me with an estimate ..this alone made a few flags go up! is called intuition ...notice how the only one who says something nice about this place is a doctor LOL Dr Holt ...I had a wonderful vet in New York ..but in Ventura I had found nothing but money hungry ones..who do not care about your animal ..when a doctor tells you is necessary to take blood test on a dying 20 yrs old then give you all types of treatments that are not going to help..then lose the tests and asked you to do them again in the meantime you are taking the animal back and forth ...finally the animal dies ..yes that happened to me in Oak View Animal Hospital...the Emergency one in Ventura I saw a young girl bring a cat and was told it was 2000 she was in shocked because she did not have the money ..I told her always always ask for an estimate FIRST!! needless to say they wouldn't give her the cat back until she paid !..I have not found a good vet and when I do I will post it here..in the meantime I use prevention methods to keep my cats healthy..all of my cats have died of old age happily in my arms..the ones I had to take to these scams doctors have been cats that i adopted from someone who was going to have them kill ...and the damage was already there..I use liquid trace minerals ( in their water ) I also give them plenty of exercise..and raw food as much as possible..not too much of the commercial food...for dogs I give them glucosamine for joints..and plenty of LOVE..I do not buy pets vitamins they are another rip off..I give them the trace minerals my family take....yogurt once in awhile is good..try to research the internet ...remember the animal business has become a multi billion dollar one ....just like people..they need your animal sick if everyone kept them healthy they would go out of business.....my vet in New York had a simple office that smell like cat and dog pee..but he and his staff LOVED the animals and charged you very little and if you did not have that he will give you credit...he would tell you about the vets buying expensive equipment and then making you the patient pay of it...he charged little because he wanted everyone to afford to take their pet to the vet ..and he will teach you how to take care of them..for example if your animal needed IV he would show you how to do it ..then tell you to do it at home so that you will not have to pay for boarding ....and if you have more than one he will give you a discount a big one ....I will be happy when I find one like him here in California ..but in the meantime I wills tick to preventing any type of ailment with good nutrition and minerals .. Thanks again for your review and hope your cat is doling better
My Cat BoBo is 17 which is the human equivalent of 85 in cat years. He had a ear infection. I was given prices over the phone. Dr. Karen Lovelace, appeared insisting I LEAVE MY CAT OVERNIGHT FOR A TEETH CLEANING. I saw through her sales pitch and I said "Why are you up-selling me expensive overnight room, board and teeth cleaning when I am here for an ear infection? Shouldn't you treat the ear pain first?(Clearly they're only interested in selling expensive unneeded services!) I sat in the room for another half hour! BoBo was crying out and pacing in pain. Finally Dr. Karen Lovelace comes back into the room SAYING ONE SHOT WOULD FIX MY CAT! (Later I found out this was WRONG-he needed drops!) She gave me a list of charges that were TRIPLE what they told me on the phone including a ridiculous charge of $42. for just looking at a slide! Surprised that the prices were NOT what they told me, I asked if I could talk to the person in charge for a possible discount. "Sure, no problem" and left the room. SUDDENLY-THE DOOR SWINGS OPEN AND A FURIOUS DR. Drew Johnson, veterinary technician, with red eyes bulging and spit flying, SCREAMS AT ME "IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO PAY FOR SERVICES GET OUT!! GET OUT!! GET OUT!!" Meanwhile-my poor sick cat, SCARED at his yelling goes running past Drew out into the lobby and free through the offices. To my horror- Drew, a supposed veterinary technician, chased my cat, grabbed him forcefully and shoved him into the carrier! I could NOT believe what I saw! I flashed $300 cash I had brought to pay and said, "Hey-I never said I wasn't going to pay, I simply was asking for a discount!" He continued to scream at me "Get Out!" despite a shocked waiting room of The Cat Doctor's next victims. I will never forget the look on their faces as this crazed vet continued screaming! I spent my afternoon at this awful MEAN ANTI-CAT place in a tiny room. Instead of caring about my cat it was clear they ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY. After taking time off work, SCREAMED AT and totally humiliated, but WORSE my cat was STILL in agonizing pain and not treated. In UTTER frustration I called THE CAT DOCTOR'S head office in Thousand Oaks to tell them I was going to report them to the Vet Board. William begged me to not file a report and write this review. I must be a sucker because I want to believe vets actually care about the animals. The truth seems more like vets just want money. He invited me to come to the main office the next day and they would "Comp" the charges for treatment (BTW folks:"comp" usually means free, right?!). The next day I showed up at theThousand Oaks office. BoBo was seen by Dr. Darcie Heyes, owner, who said ONE SHOT WOULD NOT HAVE WORKED!! BoBo needed ear drops. This took maybe 5 minutes to finally treat BoBo. (The Ventura office did not care if BoBo suffered.) As I was leaving the office they charged me $65. What happened to getting "Comped"? I mentioned William had promised to "comp" but since William was "surprise" not there... I gave up and paid anyway. I had a free coupon and a promise of being "comped" but they charged me $65 anyway! I went through hell to get treatment. I called and took a poll of all my friend's and they say most Vets in Ventura consistently charge for unnecessary procedures to maximize profits and cause more suffering. If anyone knows a good, HONEST Vet in Ventura that likes animals, doesn't lie or steal, please post it and let us know! Folks-don't blindly let some strange vet take YOUR precious family member on a horror ride just so they can overcharge you. QUESTION the treatment! Question your doctor! and WRITE REVIEWS! Reviews are vital so we as consumers can help out each other and put crooked thieves like THE CAT DOCTOR-Ventura out of business! Thanks you for your time reading this.
Do not go to The Cat Doctor if you want to be treated with compassion and respect or if you expect a Vet to return your phone calls. After $500, Doctor Julie knew my cat was very sick and most likely dying. She said she would call me back the next day with test results. She didn't. Nor did she call the day after that. When I called the office with my concerns, the receptionist, Isabelle, blew me off and said that "the doctor would get back to me as soon as they had the results." The next day I called again and Isabelle told me that Doctor Julie was now out of the office for several days!! Isabelle promised me that another Vet, Doctor Lovelace, would call me back that night with my results. I told Isabelle, "I NEED to talk to someone today." I made sure that she had my correct phone number. No one called. I took my cat to the emergency room where they had to put him down - and the Cat Doctor couldn't be bothered with my phone calls. They could have saved me time, money, and heartache at the emergency room if I had been able to get the vet to talk to me and share some information with the emergency clinic. The staff at The Cat Doctor are cold, insensitive, quick to place blame on each other and make up bogus excuses. No one ever took any responsibility for not calling me back in time. Beware of this facility!
