I have dealt with three vets at Aloha, and loved all of them. The entire staff is courteous, friendly, and more than competent. I feel very much at home when I'm there, and more importantly, my little dog (Maggie, a yorkie-poo) seems to be very much at home as well. She is always treated well, and everyone there treats us--and all the other visitors--as if we're the most important patients coming through their door. I have great trust that when Maggie and I leave Aloha, we're both better off than when we arrived. I thank them for their service, and I recommend them without reservation. Enjoy your visit!
We followed Dr. Zelles from his previous location in Carlsbad to Aloha Animal Hospital many years ago and have been bringing our fur children there ever since. We have interacted with all of the veterinarians and staff over the years and have always been touched by the consistent level of professionalism, competency, and concern displayed. They have always provided the support we need during the good times and the hard times and have been willing to go that extra mile when needed. We appreciate how they truly care for these important members of our family.
I've been to Aloha many times about my two airedale dogs. The staff is always responsive, helpful and pleasant. The vets are knowledgeable and kind. When one of my dog's leg was run over and had an unusual fracture, they did not hesitate to call in a special surgeon for the unusual work that was needed. I have complete confidence in this animal hospital.
I took a severely ill kitten, demonstrating neurological impairement, inability to eat or drink, respiratory distress, diarrhea, elevated heart rate and high fever in for consultation with Dr. John Abella. He made a diagnosis of feline herpes virus (FHV), that turned out to be incorrect, solely from a brief inspection that proved to be both incorrect and potentially life-threatening to my pet, without performing any substantiating tests. He prescribed and administered an inappropriate antibiotic shot known as Convenia, that is not only expensive, but is only approved for skin infections, of which my kitten had none. In addition, he recommended the kitten be put on an expensive, life-long regimen of Lysine for control of the FHV - a protocol that was discredited in the early 2000's as being completely without merit of any kind in reducing the severity or recurrence of the disease. He further recommended the kitten be put on the expensive, anti-parasitic Revolution. Both the doctor and later the nurse attempted to sell me a year's supply of Lysine and Revolution, before leaving their office. My kitten's condition continued to rapidly deteriorate in the next 2 days, despite the antibiotic injection. So two days later, I took her to the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Escondido. With no time to waste, they immediately started giving her critical care of IV fluids and broad-spectrum antibiotics, while performing extensive testing of every feline infectious disease possible. The finding - not FHV at all - but a severe micoplasma bacterial infection, plus an unidentifiable viral infection. So, had I not done my research and sought secondary diagnosis and treatment, Dr. Abella's misdiagnosis would - as a worst case scenario - have resulted in the death of my pet. At a minimum, his recommendations would easily have resulted in approximately $1000+ in inappropriate and unnecessary expenses a year. Suffice it to say, I will not be bringing any more pets to Dr. Abella's Aloha Animal Hospital, nor will I recommend it to any of my many friends or followers...
Wonderful!! I have been going here since 2001. Have lived in 3 different cities in north county, but have stayed with Aloha Animal Hospital, because they are the best. I have learned so much from them, and they are amazing with my two "kids". Best vet hospital ever been to. They will answer any questions, help you with anything you need and are always up on the newest and best treatments for your pets. Great people!
