I've been a VCA TLC client for almost 6 years for my 2 dogs. I have been impressed with the knowledge, skill and professionalism of the veterinarians and staff at TLC and Dr. Hiebert as the medical director. I've never felt taken advantage of, and I'm happy to pay for the skillfulness of these vets and RVTs as my dogs are like my children and I want them to have the best care, not cut corners to save costs and to be sure that blood work is where is should be before prescribing medication. I've been there under emergency circumstances and for routine exams, as well as for pet travel documentation both domestically and abroad. I have to say that many of the reviews here where vets are "all about the money" don't understand the overhead, insurance and equipment to run an animal HOSPITAL. Please consider the education of both the veterinarians and RVTs. Ever thought about how much a state of the art Xray machine is? Or an ultrasound? Or the fact that someone is opening your dog for a surgical procedure? I'm sorry there are people who expect services for free, or to be really cheap just because "you love animals". It's not fair to the veterinary industry to just say "they are out for the money" because Fluffy needed emergency surgery at 4am for a life-threatening bloat that you weren't prepared to pay for. You pay for what you get, and TLC is above the standard for medical expertise, professionalism and their compassion for animals. If you are looking for the cheapest option, check out your local shelter or mobile vet. If you want excellence, TLC is the place to go.
Took my dog in on a Sunday after he had an allergic reaction to a bug bite. I called a few places before coming to VCA and none were as friendly or willing to accommodate as the folks at VCA. The staff on the phone and at the front desk (Melissa & August) were very friendly during a very stressful time. They were able to see my dog pretty quickly even though we were walk-ins and they were busy. Nurses were excellent--polite and took the time to explain exactly what was wrong with my dog and what they were going to do to treat him. The vet (Dr. Chang) was also great--very friendly, informative, and great with my dog. It is definitely worth mentioning that the visit was much more affordable than I expected. I needed a new vet in the area and am so glad I found this place. I will definitely be coming back for my pet's regular visits.
The staff here was wonderfully kind and even gave a second pill for free in case I messed up administering the first one.
Took my dog in who was having seizures...charge us $100 walk in fee and over $200 for blood work. Vet was OK but it's all about the money there...I only went there as a last resort...won't again.
We went to TLC for over a year. They were great when it came to just shots and normal yearly items. For anything else, do not take your pet here. They will pray on your emotional connection to your pet and screw you. Stay away from anything VCA related. They're a giant corporation that justs wants money and orders expensive tests. We had an incident that needed a urinalisis and a blood test. Cost for a pee test and a blood test... $500 dollars. It's criminal how they work you here. A pee test should cost no more than 50 dollars. That's not my guessing, that's the quote I got from a reputable vet just outside of town. If they need to sedate your pet for anything they charge $150 just to sedate them. I went to another vet which was also terrible and over priced and did things exactly like TLC until I found an honest vet. Example why TLC is terrible. We had an incident with our pet that cost us almost $600 dollars, for tests... that's it. Didn't do a surgery, didn't do xrays or administer shots. Theses were simple tests too, we're not checking for cancer here, just to see if the dog had a yeast or bladder infection. We had to talk them out of x-rays and a shot because the dog threw up that morning and they insisted he needed a $150 shot. Dogs throw up sometimes. They get nervous, they eat funny things. They throw up. It's a fact. They were trying to charge us $800 dollars total to get to the bottom of what was going on, when in fact when we took him to an honest vet, he could tell immediately what was wrong and even if he ordered the tests it would have been $150 total for all of them Now... before we found our new vet. After our tests, our dog's condition worsened. We called TLC and they said they don't have any openings that day, but we could bring him in as an emergency and they'll charge us $100 just to come in for the visit... WE WERE JUST THERE TWO DAYS AGO. This is a follow up visit to an issue they didn't resolve and instead of offering us a half rate or free follow up rate for the visit they wanted to charge us $100 just to walk in the door. We're not new patients, this isn't our first time. Unfortunately, this is the M.O. of many animal hospitals in los angeles and they just happen to be the biggest fraud's and crooks of them all. They're about profit, not about your pet's health. Example, they quoted us over $2,000 for a surgery... one that was also matched by California Animal Hospital... then our new vet quoted us $650 IF he had to do the surgery. Turns out there was a cheaper lower impact surgery option that only costs us $212 dollars. Both TLC and California didn't even offer or mention the less invasive procedure. Our dog is now healthy and didn't have as long of a recovery time and it was 1/10th of the cost. LITERALLY 1/10! It's crazy. They'll only recommend the extreme and expensive here. That $212 procedure was done by a legit vet in Camarillo who sedated him, did the procedure, and analyzed the samples. He was actually outraged when we told him about one of the $600 procedures we had done at California Animal Hospital, because it didn't do anything, it was just a way for them to make more money. It literally had more of a negative impact on the dog's heath than not doing it. It's disgusting. If you take your pet here, you may be happy with them when it's just routine shots and check ups. But if there's every anything out of the ordinary, prepare to get a second mortgage on your house. Or just save yourself some time and find and honest vet that provides a service for an honest fee.
