For years I have been going here for our dogs and I have always had good service. The last two visits however have been disappointing and I'm hoping it's not a trend. The last visit was the worst by far. My dog was in pain, panting heavily, and we were very concerned for his health. I took him in and the receptionist named M____, warned me about abandoning him saying they knew where I lived and they would make my life difficult if I did. I was shocked that she would say something so calloused at such a difficult time. The only reason I'm not rating them a one star is that the doctor who saw our dog was very nice. I was going to contact the VCA instead of rating them publicly but their "Contact Us" web page was broken.
It's a crap shoot here, with many vet assistants recently out of school and unable to diagnose something without running several costly tests. Got to know most of the vet assistants and a few of the doctors during our pets unfortunate stay in IC. Of the doctors, Dr. Beadleston is a huge disappointment. Was 20 min late for an appt (which was his first for that day, and which resulted in me being an hour late for work). No apology. Took some samples for ringworm. Was told he'd give results by X date. Rang nearly 10 days after X date and then used wrong pet's name in his VM. Totally inept and clueless. I'd already self-diagnosed and was treating our pet. I'd use VCA in a pinch again but never t
A fellow rat owner came here to save her rat, who was in labor and it was not progressing, and the rat was losing a lot of blood. The “vet” told the pet owner that the rat needs a c-section and would not be performed unless she came up with $1,000 for the procedure! That, in itself, is ridiculous. She, however, only had a few hundred dollars to her name at the moment of the emergency, and offered that for the time being to save her pet and her babies, but that was refused and told the 1,000 had to be paid in full or they would put the rat to sleep for FREE. Well, convenient for this POS vet, right? It’s “just a rat”, I am sure was the thought process there. Unfortunately, the rat died in the owner’s arms, and THE LOSS OF THE MOTHER RAT AND BABIES IS ON YOU, VCA!!! When you take an oath to become a vet, you are sworn to care for animals and try to save lives at all costs. The fact that you would not take what few hundred dollars to save a precious pet’s life and let the girl pay the rest tomorrow or when she got paid is absolutely unacceptable! I don’t care if someone comes in with a dog, cat, hamster, gerbil, or RAT…they are obviously loved tremendously by the owner for them to even be brought to your shoddy practice to begin with!!! Shame on you! You cost this poor lady her rat and the babies she was in labor with. I sincerely hope a lawsuit is brought against you. You, you ignorant, money-hungry, selfish “vets” should not be allowed around any animal. I have never known any vet to refuse service to a dying pet of any species in these type of dire emergencies. Know why? Because they honor the oath they took when they took on the title of a veterinarian. KEEP YOUR PETS AWAY FROM HERE IF YOU WANT TO KEEP THEM ALIVE!!!! You are lucky this was not my rat or you would not have a business much longer to kill animals and turn away ANY pet with this kind of emergency. This is saved on my laptop, so if you remove it, it will only be re-posted. You did this to your client, you did this to her pet and her pet's babies...OWN UP TO IT!
I had to euthanize my 14 year old cat today. I just wanted to say Thank you to everyone for being there and giving me support. Thanks and gratitude to Dr. Israel, James Shelton, Amy Williams, Kris Newquist and Jean Wilbert. You are all wonderful.
I feel like they convinced me to have unnecessary bloodwork done (to make sure my dog wouldn't be harmed by taking a low dose of what they repeatedly described as doggie "ibuprofen" for her arthritis), then used that initial testing to try and justify much more testing and prescriptions. They went into great detail about the new issues uncovered by the tests, and were clear to say that the numbers didn't show that there actually was a problem, they just indicated that there "might be a problem", and if I had the money I should do more testing. That's why I feel like it was completely unnecessary. I feel like I got taken advantage of, and more than that, I feel like they took advantage of my love for my pet in an effort to guilt me into spending money I didn't need to.
