Having a pet emergency is scary, but you are in good hands here. The staff is professional, caring, and absolutely top notch.
This weekend I had a terrifying experience. My little kitty came home with her tail completely "degloved". For those of you that don't know what that means (because I sure did not) all the fur and flesh had been totally stripped of her tail leaving nothing but a what looked like a bloody rat tail. We immediately took her to the Fort Collins Veterinary Emergency and Rehabilitation Hospital since it was late Saturday they were the only ones open. This place does not care about animals! They saw her tail and informed us that they would have to amputate it completely. We understood that this would be pretty expensive but then they quoted us $900.00 on the low side and $1700.00 on the high side. Cash or credit card only. My husband and I obviously upset, tried working things out saying we could come up with the $900 now and set up a payment plan for the rest. The vet then looked at us and told us that her suggestion was to wait until Monday morning and take her some where else. She said that with the way our cat was acting it would be more like $1200. So they gave her a shot of antibiotics and some pain meds and charged us $308 to just send her home for the rest of the weekend with a bloody dismembered tail. They didn't even clean the tail, just shoved us out the door. I am horrified that a place that supposedly helps and heals animals would do such a terrible thing. All they care about is money! Luckily she survived the weekend and first thing this morning we took her to Paws 'N Claws Veterinary Clinic where the staff was AMAZING! They were so friendly and took her right in. They did the amputation and only charged us $380. If anyone in the Fort Collins area is looking for a vet DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET to the Fort Collins Veterinary Emergency and Rehabilitation Hospital. These people are MONSTERS to have sent her away in that condition.
I've been to the clinic several times with my dog for rehabilitation. They are fairly priced, thorough, empathetic and offer many options for care. Our Vet Tech, Nicole, was wonderful, even offering to lend us one of her orthopedic dog beds during my dog's recovery. Having worked in a vet clinic, I can tell you that their policy of referring some patients to non-emergency hospitals, especially when money is a concern for the humans involved, is not uncommon. It is an effort to care for our pets while accommodating owners' financial situations. Cao says thanks for the treats and massages! She's greatly improved.
This place is a JOKE! Admittly overpriced, the Dr had NO clue what he was doing, it took FOREVER, and the customer service was absolutely awful on the part of the Dr. The technicians were nice, but the experience was ruined by the Dr who had no clue how to even work his own technology and didn't follow thru and keep any of the promises made! I BEG YOU ALL, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE...bc I wish I would have!
The other reviews on this page gave me paws but there aren't many choices at 1AM so I took my kitty here. I did not realize my kitty had died in transit or as I walked into the vet since I could not see into the canvas carrier. They tried to bring her back but could not, and after a point the doc suggested that they probably should not try anymore. They did not charge me near the standard listed price for CPR. Everyone was very nice and compassionate. Doctor Romero was especially nice and took time to discuss my other sick cat's symptoms and what may have caused this kitty's demise. They made a paw print in clay to memorialize my kitty at no cost. While I agree the office/reception area is in dire need of a make-over, I won't hesitate to return when the need arises.
