I always used Colonial Animal Hospital and now using Colonial Gateway Veterinary Center since it's more convenient. I was reading some of the reviews and I'm surprised by some of the remarks. I have always felt that the Vets were always professional, caring and knowledgeable. I do agree that sometime the staff appears overwhelmed but I've never known them to be rude, maybe I've just been fortunate. I can't imagine any veterinarian not caring about their patients as was suggested.
I can't attest to their medical abilities. I called on a Saturday during business hours for an emergency cat injury and the only thing they were interested in talking about was what they want to charge me for services before they even would see me. And they made sure to tell me that they can't make payment arrangements because the doctor wasn't the owner so, if this EMERGENCY hospital couldn't have payment up front there was nothing they could do for me. The previous comments about them being all about the money was correct. I was coming in with cash. They will never touch my animals.
I have been going to the colonial hospital for over ten years, today I had an emergency and was told to go to their new facility on gateway and federal, when I dropped my dog off the secretary was rude and all her main focus was money, they will not work with you on payments, I paid over half my deposit, then asked if I could make payments which I would have them paid within three days, I was told that docs need to be paid along with their staff, and their was no way they would work with me, I felt my dog was being held hostage, so if my dog had to stay longer they would have charged me for boarding, I was able to give them their money at ten till six, then the secretary was making comments that she had to be there late, I would not suggest anybody to go to colonial animal hospital on gateway and federal.
Don't let the other review dissuade you from going to these lovely people for your animal's care. There must have been something terribly wrong with "Doxie" by the time she was taken in for care. They have been our vets for many years and they have been terrific. Emergency care at all hours, gentle and caring. I recommend them highly and trust them with "our baby", a 13 yr. old Boston Terrier named Gypsy.
I've been to a lot of animal clinics and I will say hands down Dr. Robert Martin is the best diagnostician I have ever met. He has correctly diagnosed scarring on a lung that another vet thought was cancer, from the xray. He looked at blood work that another dog of mine had and correctly diagnosed Crohn's disease from the blood work. Sure they will do all the tests but it makes all the difference when you know what test to run. Many times tests confirm your suspicions, depending on the test, they may not give the final diagnoses. I will be honest I have seen my pets live years longer and happier because of Colonial Animal Clinic. The tech's really care there too, they are there because they love animals more than to get a paycheck. I am in construction and see the back for hours at a time while fixing things. I see what great work they do from behind the exam rooms where other client's can't see. It's a family business, Dr. Martin and Lisa are always there making sure everything is running perfect. The pricing is middle of the road, not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. They have saved me money on lots of things in fact. Most of all though, any vet. can give vaccinations but what are they made of when it really counts, when your pet's life hangs in the balance with an infirmity that is out of the ordinary. I feel confident through my vast history of experiences there, through the worst pet illnesses, that I have found a second home for my pet's at Colonial. They receive the best care that any money can buy there. If your pet is old or is prone to illness, like many of mine have gotten in their final years, this is the place. He won't give up on your pet, he finds answers others don't when you are thinking the worst. I miss my Cici but I know her last five years were good ones thanks to Dr. Martin. That scar tissue was so bad it caused her to cough day and night. I was desperate and took her to Dr. Martin. He thought out of the box and prescribed her an asthma medication, since there really isn't any prescription for what she had. Within 24 hours the incessant terrible coughing stopped and I got five more happy years for her, for us. Watching your best friend cough herself to death in her old age is heartbreaking and I will never be able to thank him enough for saving her from that. So if you need a vet, even if your pet is healthy, you should have one that can really make a difference in the quality of your pet's life and your life. I am happy to recommend Dr. Martin and you will see, when it counts he will make the difference in keeping your pet healthy and happy for years beyond what you might have had elsewhere. There is a reason why that clinic is packed and always expanding, happy healthy pets, happy owners. Thanks Dr. Martin for everything. P.S. As to the two one star reviews, besides the painful grammatical errors, they are unusual as reviews go. The first returns the half used "needless" medication of their pet for a refund? Need I say more. As to the second, I feel sincerely terrible he lost his pet, but there are times when no one short of God can save your pet. There are limits, Dr. Martin has pushed far beyond them for me many a time, but even he has limits. You will have the best chance at health for your pet with him, the rest is up to God. Good luck in your search for a vet. I hope this review has helped, I assure you they won't disappoint.
