Since moving to the area in 2004, VP Hospital has taken care of 5 of our dogs and 2 cats. When our cat got cancer that was inoperable they treated us and her with the utmost respect. If there is ever a urgent matter all we have to do is call and 99% of the time they will squeeze in an appointment that same day. One of our dogs now has a skin problem that we just figured out what it is. The staff there did not know, but at least they told us straight out and recommended a dermatologist. Turns out it is a VERY rare, but treatable condition.

I can't begin to tell you how very impressed I was with this clinic! I had an urgent issue with my dog. I called them instead of our regular office (their sister clinic) because of proximity and I wanted my dog to be jostled as little as possible. They said come in the same day for a 2:30pm appointment. We arrived at 2:10pm and were greeted, immediately and then told to take a seat. I found the place to be neat and clean and simply furnished. There was not a lot of noise or strong smells (though I'm sure my dog would disagree, lol) so she was not terribly afraid to be in there. She even plopped up on the bench next to me. We were barely seated when a woman carrying her chart called us back. The two ladies were very friendly with her and helped her for getting the weight and back to the room. They listened intently, asked questions, looked over the pictures I brought (I had been taking them every 4-6 hours over the prior 36, due to rapid onset) and then got to work. They explained everything they were doing and looking for and were very thorough. I was out the door at 2:33pm and with a bill that was literally 1/3 of what I expected it to be, even with the testing and 3 different medications. I would gladly take her back to this office, any time, and will probably switch to this one for all 4 of my fur babies.

I called Viscaya-Prado at 3:00pm, hoping I would be able to get in the following day with my suddenly ill dog. When I called, their concern not only carried through the phone line, but they also told me they could see me in just 2 hours time! I was shocked as we are new to the area and never been there before. When I got there, again, their concern for Murphy was evident. As I filled out paperwork, my son took Murphy to the waiting area. Imagine my surprise when less than 10 minutes later after filling out paperwork, I went to the waiting room to find they had already been called in and the doctor was examining Murphy! No wait??? She made her diagnosis and took her time explaining to me what she felt was the problem, the treatment course she was going to prescribe and answered my questions... all the while not rushing. She truly seemed to want us to understand. Then, it took only 7-8 minutes for them to bring me the filled prescriptions and walk me to the check out area. And the price SHOCKED me. I was expecting double, which it would have been at my old clinic in Minnesota. And my old clinic (of 12 years) would have done unnecessary tests, recommendations and other upsells. In fact, I stopped going to my old clinic for even routine things like vaccinations and started using low cost vaccination clinics at local pet stores because I got tired of them "recommending" things like $300 teeth cleaning. It was 3 hours from the time of my initial phone call to getting back home after our visit. Incredible.Viscaya-Prado is now my permanent clinic. I loved their concern, availability and prices. I have been taking my pets to them for 10 years. I have had an assortment of at least 10 adopted pets with an equal assortment of health problems. I have found everyone to be friendly and supportive. Most importantly, however, they are competent and efficient and have saved one of my pets on more than one occasion. They regard my pets as I regard them, and they have taught me to carryout recommended treatments at home. They really are my heroes.

I had a Beagle that meant the world to my family and I, we went to Chiquita Animal Hosipital as my dog suddenly became gravely ill. I was told my dog had at most three days to live, very cold! My dog was dying yet I wanted to find a caring Doctor to see him on what would be his last visit.I found DR.MILTON MCKELVIE, THANK GOD! He was kind enough to see us that day!! We knew Rascal was in pain, It was in the dog's best interest to euthanize. What was one of the worst days of my life was made a little easier by Dr. Mckelvie's kindness and compassion!!! He is not only a GREAT VET HE IS ALSO A MAN WHO TRULY LOVES THOSE HE TREATS!!! I have FOUR other dogs who from that day on will not go anywhere else!!! As for his staff when I went to pay the bill they told me they would bill me," NOT TO WORRY ABOUT THAT NOW" he brought me back to the days when it wasn't all about the money! Yesterday I received a sympathy card from him! He stayed with us for a little while and grieved too.Amazing, as far as others saying negative things I can't imagine why! I was asked many, many questions he wasn't in a hurry to move on to the nex't patient. DR. McKelvie Thank you, for everything. I"ve been to many vets and I must say YOU ARE THE BEST!
