WOULD NEVER GO THERE AGAIN - Attendant Abby is friendly and caring but the Vet is the worse I've ever been to ..... my Cat too was subjected to horrific pain as I was held in a holding room hearing her cries but not before running up a $400 prepaid bill for a shopping list of items before they would even start treatment. I intervened and seen first hand what my feline had been subjected to and immediately decided to remove her from that situation. The Vet's response was 'she's dying Man as he instructed Abby to prepare a cathecor (sp?) so she would be ready to be euthanized - not one word of compassion from this most insensitive person calling himself a Vet. I'll regret taking my pet to this clinic forever.
*** DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE "EVER" *** I can't even begin to tell you what a horrific experience this was for me and my family. I only hope you read this before you take your beloved pet here. I am still so emotionally upset about this experience that I can't even go into all the details of what took place. I will say that the assistant named Chris should be FIRED IMMEDIATLY and never work in any type of care giving position ever again.. We brought our dog in here (a family pet of over 10 years). I am standing outside the door with her in my arms (she weighed 40lbs or so ) I stood outside ringing the bell to get in when Chris decides to slowly shuffle his way to the door to let us in. He points to a room for us to go in. I set her on the table and his first words to me "are we euthanizing her". I said did I say anything about that??? He checks her heart rate and says it don't look good. I will give you a list of options and prices and he tosses the paper down like I'm buying a car and says check off what you want to keep her alive. I said how about a little compassion. The doctor then comes in and tells us what some options are but it don't look good and company policy is you can't stay here while we are treating her. I'm like why not. My dog is dying and I can't be by her side. He said we could stay for a little bit but then we have to go. We were in the waiting room and Chris comes back out and asked us to pay and I said I wanted to see my dog first and he said no. I said I will pay after I see my dog. He said to me “ you call me uncompassionate when you’re the one that's uncompassionate by keeping your dog alive. For legal reasons I won't go into any further detail but we went in the back and seen my dog take her last breaths while the police stood behind us to escort us out. As if it wasn't bad enough my dog was dying I had to deal with all of that too. WHAT A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PLACE AND EXPERIENCE..
I was a few days ago with my cat in the clinic because of a intestinal obstruction. We didn´t have to wait very long because no other people were there. First I had to fill out the paperwork, it doesn´t matter what emergency is coming in, first the paperwork. Then the assistent (she was very friendly) did the examination. I don´t know what the problem with cats is, that everybody is scared of them as if it would be a Tiger or so. Of course a pet flinches when the examination hurts. And of course the stomach of my cat was hard and very sensitive. But I held my cat and so it was ok. Then the vet came in and did the same examination again. He palpated her stomach too and said we need X rays. The estimate was about 260 $. I said I don´t want this because I know what the problem is (she had it a few months before) and if he didn´t feel it. He said no. I told him I want just a clyster for her because she has pain. They took her away and I was not allowed to hold her or even be close to her what I don´t understand. In Germany this is not a problem. But maybe the clinic knows why it´s better not to be with the pet. I was sent in a room, the door closed and in that moment I heard my cat scream like crazy and as I ran in the room she fell or jumped from the table and ran full of panic away. I couldn´t believe that the vet tried to give her the clyster without any injection or medication against pain!!!! They are so fast with the estimate for x rays but for something so absolute important like a pain medication it doesn´t matter for them. He should think how he would feel if he had this problem! A pet doesn´t feel very different! I still get upset when I think of the screaming and crying of my cat. It was terrible. Then he said he can´t do it without putting her to sleep. First I was upset because they wanted to take her away from me again but then I had to put her in a box of plexiglass (she hardly fitted in the box), then they closed the box and my cat was sitting like in a gas chamber, was scared to death and I had to leave the room again. But if I imagine they would have to give her the medicine intravenously...no I don´t want to imagine that. Then I had to wait about an hour until she could go on the litter box. I was still not allowed to be with her. So she sat alone somewhere in a room and in this time the dog of another patient died and the woman was screaming and crying very loud (I do understand that but I don´t understand that they let my cat alone with the fear and the screaming). The assistent was very nice but normally I had always vets who are talking to the animals and try to calm them down or show a little more interest and not just interest in the invoice. The costs during the night are crazy, I paid 283 $. Just for a very very little bottle of lactulose syrup I paid 20 $ and the gas chamber was over 150 $. But they know that everybody would do anything for their pets and so you have to pay. I am happy that we have a emergency clinic in Fort Myers but maybe the vet could be a little nicer to the animals!! If he doesn´t like his job he shouldn´t do it. I think that pets should be treated like children, they don´t understand what happens and they are scared and have pain. So please be nicer to your patients, they pay a lot of money for that!
So happy with the care my cat received from the staff there! Granted, it is outrageously expensive but they took care of him in a very timely manner and with great care. I would happily return in the event of an emergency. They even called me the next day to see how he was doing!
