My 4 year old dog was blind this summer due to a sudden onset of cataracts. Dr. Brown performed a lens replacement and he can see again. I could not be happier with the results. Even though Dr. Brown had to remove one eye as it was destroyed from glaucoma, the fact that my dog has vision again is simply amazing. Thank you.
I have a lot of respect for Dr. Chandler. He's an authentic human who understands the relationship we create with our pet families, and how hard it is to remain objective when their health is at stake. He and his technicians are professional and diligent, and he has been very conservative in the care and treatment of my animal's eye problem. I feel entirely supported by him. The only reason I googled Animal Eye Clinic today was that I learned he had another clinic in Orange Park, and I thought it might be a good idea to check that facility out instead of the Southside Boulevard location, because the office staff who run administration there are rude, impolite, uncaring and act like they hate their job and people. How sad that must be for such a wonderful doctor. In the many times I have been to see them I have yet to leave even once having been treated politely by the reception/office staff.
It seems like the negative reviews on this page are regarding the Animal ER next door, not the eye clinic. They are located in the same complex but are completely different businesses. I took my dog here after his eye popped out of its socket. They were very kind and gentle with both him and me, as I was pretty upset over the whole ordeal. Their prices were reasonable, only very slightly more expensive than my regular vet--$10 more than what I usually pay for an exam. After my dog's eye was back in place, it pointed off to the side. The doctor even recommended NOT getting surgery to fix that as it would be purely cosmetic and pretty costly. After a second check-up he said my dog was good to go and suggested that I continue to give my dog an over-the-counter medication, telling me to buy it at Walgreens instead of through him because it was cheaper. His goal was making my dog comfortable and pain-free, not charging for excessive treatments. While a specialist is going to be a little more expensive than your standard vet, it's clear that these people are here to help animals, not to nickle and dime you. Added bonus: They have a one-eyed goldfish in the lobby.
I have extensive knowledge in the veterinary field. I am well aware that not all veterinarians are created equal. I am needy and demanding. My dog recently had to see Dr Chandler at the Animal Eye Clinic. He was thorough and knowledgeable. I was impressed with his testing and treatment. I would highly recommend him as an eye specialist and would give him a 10 out of 10. Penny Martin
Waste of time. Yes, they are expensive but I expected that from an emergency vet. But this place is a total waste of time/money. I took my dog there after he refused to eat or walk and cried out whenever I tried to move him. After waiting 40 mins, the vet finally performed a "physical exam" and said he saw nothing wrong. After I insisted my dog was not acting normal, he snapped saying "ok, I guess I'll do the exam...AGAIN". After still insisting nothing was wrong, he offered to run some (3 total!) blood tests and an xray for $500, but still couldn't tell me what they'd be looking for. I decided to hold out and took him to my regular vet first thing in the morning. Within 5 minutes our vet concluded he had slipped a disk, did an xray to confirm, gave a shot of pain med, some pills to take home, and very clear care instructions. No blood tests needed for a slipped disk, hello!! Not sure if all the vets here are the same, but the one we had was rude and smug with HORRIBLE bedside manners...and he was of no help at ALL! There are other emergency vets in the area that are much more caring and sensitive to pets and their owners, especially for critical care! Wouldn't recommend this place after our experience!
