dr.howell great doc been going to midway for years always great w/ my yorkie thank u

We've always had excellent care from Dr. Howell, and he's been or only Vet. for over 10 years now. He has gone through a lot of staff changes over the past 3~4 years, and in some cases we've found not really for the better, but when people move far away, they have to be replaced. Find the follow up by office staff is a little lacking compared to what it used to be, but this falls on the office manager and not directly onto Dr. Howell. It looks as if he's changed some staff again recently, so hopefully things will be taken care of more promptly within the office itself. As for pricing, the cost of Vet services has increased everywhere, if you can't afford to buy insurance to cover any major problems than may come along over the years, do you really think you should have a pet who looks to you for their well being? Trust me, I know, $30- a month is a lot easier to pay, than over $4000, and the pet then dies anyway, through NO FAULT of the Vet. Dr. Howell is the best in the Clearwater/St. Petersburg area in my book!

My son recently adopted a Chihuahua and quickly discovered that the dog was sick. He originally had him seen at an animal hospital in Dunedin where the veterinarian had him on an antibiotic for three weeks with no signs of improvement. We then took him to Dr. Howell after receiving a strong positive recommendation from friends. When I called him on Friday afternoon and asked for an appointment, I thought for sure that we would have to wait until Monday to be seen. They gave Esteban an appointment for 4:30. . My son works in Oldsmar and I was able to take him for treatment while he was at work. We did have to wait for a while that afternoon for him to be seen but the staff was caring and helpful and Dr. Howell was nothing short of terrific. Dr. Howell spent a great deal of time carefully checking the puppy over and listening to his heart and lungs. After x-rays and blood tests, it was clear that this puppy had an advanced case of pneumonia and would need additional care for quite awhile. Whenever I have taken the puppy in for treatments, I am impressed by the level of care that is shown to all of the patients there. You cannot help but notice that if you are in the waiting room or an examining room each animal being seen is receiving quality care and attention (no grumbling patients or owners here). I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Howell and his staff to anyone who is in need of expert animal care. The Midway Animal Hospital is not a glamorous facility but the level of excellence, experience and expertise is fantastic.

We took our 10 year old dog there because she was coughing, they diagnosed the problem as a heart murmur and a enlarged heart (correct diagnoses). Dr Howell prescribed two medications, one of which he did not have in the clinic, it was back ordered and three weeks later after no call from the vet we called and found out the second med was ready for pick up for quite a while, no call from them. We put her on the other med and within a week she was coughing up blood. We took her to another vet who couldn't figure out why the meds were given and prescribed two others and she is now hardly coughing at all and doing great.

Dr. Howell is great and his staff are also excellent. Appointment times are very close - compared to waiting over an hour with a worried, clawing dog at other vets. Had an issue w/ a dog I was going to adopt from a rescue and the visit went bad, dog bit him and me. He was never mean or hurtful to the dog and I felt terrible, but he was very gracious about it. The only vet that has told me my dog DOES NOT need additional things. Highly recommended, excellent staff. As far as the comment about the prices, it is high anywhere I don't feel I've ever been overcharged here. I have always been taken w/in an hour for emergencies as well, stitches, etc. They mostly say to come right in!
