I started with Dr. Webster before she opened East West Animal Hospital. My first impression was positive and lasting because of her common sense approach to keeping pets healthy. Two years ago I discovered lumps on the belly of my miniature schnauzer. This was just over a month before a scheduled vacation that had been planned for almost a year and Cuda was going on that vacation with us. He was also scheduled for some regular vaccinations that I wanted to make sure he had before we traveled. What really impressed me was her knowledge of the vaccinations as she explained how she would hold off on one of them until after surgery and when the lab confirmed that the tumors were negative. The reason was that the vaccination would cause the tumors to spread if they were positive. Fortunately, all turned out well. Finances a bit tight right now but as soon as possible we will be right back to see Dr. Webster. Someone with that type of knowledge is invaluable to me and I've never had another veterinarian explain things the way she does. BTW, I have NEVER been "strung out" to rack up more charges as was mentioned in a previous review. After reading that review it was apparent to me that Dr. Webster was looking out for the health and welfare of those animals and the individual just did not understand.
This is a very expensive vet. We've brought several pets here (based on reviews) over the last couple of years and we've had mixed feelings about their prices and the disorganized office staff. Our most recent experience with East West will be our last. My husband brought our two medium size dogs in for their annual exams/vaccines and for stronger flea medication because we were having an outdoor flea problem. Our bill was $861.41 with no vaccines. The bill includes 6 months flea/heartworm for each dog. During the exam, they diagnosed our 14 year old pit with an ear infection. No biggie. Our 5 year old mixed breed dog has a skin/flea allergy. She always has. She has very sensitive skin and she gets hot spots near her tail every year. They prescribed her Cephalexin, which is exactly what they gave her during her last annual exam at East West, because she had the exact same skin allergy that time. The last time they wrote the script and we filled the prescription at Target around the corner since it is a $4 prescription. They tell my husband this time that it would be cheaper to fill the prescription at their office. That was $21.90. For the record, Cephalexin is still a $4 prescription at both Wal-Mart and Target. It probably is at various other places as well. Not that big of a deal, but I thought it was worth mentioning since our main complaint is about their prices. Anyway, the ear infection and irritated skin are common and minor issues and not terribly concerning. They say, however, that they could not vaccinate them because of their infections (they didn't mention this during the visit.). My husband thinks they just forgot because he saw the vet tech fill the syringes, but they never administered the vaccines. Regardless, they didn't get their vaccines and they schedule him to bring our dogs back in 2 weeks for a follow up. When I checked the bill later that evening, I noticed we were double charged for a couple items ($31). Instead of refunding us, they say they would credit our account and it would be there on our next visit. Two weeks later, he takes them in for the follow up and they each receive a rabies vaccine. They still will not give them their Da2p vaccine because they say our pit still has an ear infection and they want our mixed breed dog to finish her few remaining Cephalexin pills. So they schedule him to bring our dogs back AGAIN for ANOTHER follow-up in a month. Then they advise him $128 is due. He has to ask for an invoice as they did not provide one to him. They gave him an invoice. The charges: $28 follow up visit for each dog ($56 total) and $36.05 rabies vaccine for each dog ($72.10). There was no credit for the $31 they overcharged him the first time. He had to ask them to correct the invoice. They give some excuse for the credit not appearing on the invoice and then they gave him a corrected invoice. They gave us a $29.72 credit. I guess they thought the other $1.25 was their tip??? We did not keep the 2nd follow up visit. We will take our dogs elsewhere to get their Da2p vaccine. We would certainly be charged another $130 or so by East West for a 2nd follow up exam and Da2p vaccines. Overall they are more expensive than any other vet we have been to. In my opinion, they were dragging out the annual exams over a series of "follow-ups" so they can rack up additional charges. After spending nearly $1,000, we still don't have the vaccines we initially took them in for. Also worth mentioning--- the vets we've been to previously give us rabies tags in the office. This one gave us a rabies certificate to take to the county (the rabies cert isn't signed by the vet so I hope Pasco County will accept it). The last time it took us an hour at the animal shelter because we had to wait behind people adopting animals. This is a minor inconvenience, but an inconvenience nonetheless. We will not be returning to East West as they are not affordable.
Pathetic communication skills and inability to provide reasonable ongoing care. I spent $494.57 in March getting a work up on a concern I had with my dog. Unrelated to this problem my dog has been on thyroid supplement for many years and they included a lab test for that as well. Over 2 weeks ago I submitted a request for thyroid medication through a mail order pharmacy and was denied because she was 'out on family emergency'. A few days later, I contacted the office during a time when they had a substitute vet and they were willing to ask THAT vet to authorize the medication but I said no I can wait till the vet returns since it would be within days and I had enough medication to last me. When the vet returns the office tells me I can pick up medication at the office(not exactly the dose needed but could be done with 2 pills, not 1)...I say no I want to get it mail order. I make my request through mail order and they say they can't get authorization from vet. Call office this morning they say no....you have to come in for more blood work. SERIOUSLY!!!! I said no thanks I'll find another vet. Pick this vet if you like getting the run around and inconvenience with your pets health care. I can't say that the care is special in any way other than spending your money as best they can.
Although I have had many of pets and I have 4 senior dogs, I am new to being a bunny mommy. It is so hard to find a vet who actually knows how to handle let alone take care of pocket pets. Dr. Register will go above and beyond to make sure no matter what species your pet is that it is taken care of properly. Although for myself it is a little pricey, my animals are my children and genuine, up to date care for my pets are a must. She honestly handled my bunnies better than I can lol. The office staff are true animal lovers and are very accommodating. My next visit will be to neuter my little boys. I'm so glad I found a doctor I can trust with my bunnies.
I don’t believe there is enough room here to say how grateful I am to have found Dr. Register. Our family came to her with a hard case and if it was not for her our dog would not still be with us. We have a 10 year old Rottie that has mouth cancer and we did not want to put him through the traditional treatment of surgery, chemo and radiation. We did not feel that it would be fair to him. When we brought him to Dr. Register, she had already reviewed all his records and had a preliminary plan of action ready to go. Dr. Register went in and took the mass out the best she could to give him some relief, and he is now on pain medicine and Chinese herbs to slow down the growth of the tumor and we changed his diet. Even though we only have a few more months with our precious dog, he is doing wonderfully! He is not in pain, he is able to eat and play with our other pets, and us. We could not ask for more. Dr. Register emails me at least every other day to get a “check in” report. If any issues arise I am able to call and either get it resolved then or they get back to me promptly. I receive calls from the staff, checking on how he is feeling. I like that Dr. Register is able to think outside the box and does not just use traditional medicine to help her patients. I also like that she is honest with you even when it is not good news, and does not do things that would not be right for your pet. She has the animals best interest in mind at all times. I recommend Dr. Register to everyone and anyone who needs a great veterinarian for their pets.
