Your response to me Sarah is very interesting, how would you know I was unhappy with the care we received when you refuse to take my calls?? I have left 13 messages for you or for the owner to call me back regarding the horrible care that we received at AVS, yet you will not call me back. Why will you not call me back to hear my complaints and issues regarding your poor treatment of my dog as well as your facilities role in his death? If you truly cared about my thoughts, experiences and feelings you would return my multiple phone calls. Obviously you do not care that much! As I have states to all google users RUN from this place! DO NOT take your animal here!! The take your money and then are done with you!!
We were treated like family, our loved cat Misfit was in pain and my we were having a hard time making such a difficult decision, David Moore and Staci Goussev are simply fantastic, we were treated like family, I felt as if they loved our Misfit just as much as we did. A special Thank you to Dr. Moore and Dr. Goussev, we will recommend to all of our friends and family.
If you are looking for truly specialty care for your pet, this is not the place to go. If you are in the central Florida area I strongly recommend that you make the drive to the UF Small Animal Hospital. The level of care and professionalism you will receive here is exponentially greater than what you will get at AVS. My experience here was terrible. I was referred here for a cardiology exam and they have no cardiologist working there. They have a doctor who comes in twice a month so we had to return when he was available. I had to find out the hard way I should have gone to the university in Gainesville right from the start. Please save yourself some time and protect your pockets. Go somewhere else. The hospital manager told me that I was the first client to ever tell AVS that the exam preformed by the cardiologist is not recognized at the UF Small Animal Hospital where they ultimately referred me to. I find this difficult to believe and I was not pleased that I got to pay for an electrocardiogram twice. She did not apologize for my experience but I was given a minimal refund from the original exam.
The absolute worse care ever provided by a medical facility. Do not advise anyone to take their beloved pets to this practice. Not only is this practice and it's doctors unsympathetic, but they are also unethical and so poorly informed of the available treatment options and medical management that they are committing malpractice and negligence. Additionally, there pricing is outrageously expensive, they claim this is because they are "veterinary specialists", well as a respected member of the local medical community I find nothing about the care they provided to be specialized. You have to do all your own research on treatment options, results and ultimately if you want a resolution to your pets problem you have to go elsewhere. You will not find compassionate, caring or adequate medical advice or treatment here. I suggest you take your beloved animal to the University of Florida Animal hospital, not only are they 1/4 of the price but they are compassionate, caring and extremely knowledgeable in the latest treatment options and research for your pets issues. It is worth the short drive to Gainesville. I am not one to usually write reviews, but I feel I need to do my part to help others never have to go through the ordeals that AVS has put us through. I WISH WE NEVER CAME TO AVS Dr Fiore and Dr Obrinksky at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Maitland tried to get us to euthanize our dog Roxy this past Saturday. She had lost all feeling in her back legs, and our vet thought it was disk related. She told us we can consult a neurologist for a 2nd opinion. So, we took her to AVS. We went to the neurology department as arranged. We met Dr. Obrinsky, who introduced herself by name. She did not state that she was a surgical resident and not in fact a neurologist. We only found out days later that she had been seen by an attending, Dr. Fiore, who was also not a neurologist, but is listed as part of their surgery department. At no time during treatment did the attending, Dr. Fiore even speak to us, despite their assessment of Roxy’s condition as life threatening. $1,200 later after they did an ultrasound and chest X-ray, the resident came out to tell me she thought Roxy has a tumor on her spleen that spread to her spinal cord, or that she is bleeding inside. She said, Roxy doesn’t act like a dog with a disk problem. It was right about their closing time on a Saturday, and she said she needed my answer right away if we want to do surgery (which she didn’t recommend). At the end she said: You should put her DOWN TODAY! Which meant as soon as possible, since they were closing and wanted to leave for the weekend. I told her we had to talk with the girls. They wanted to say goodbye to her. She asked how long will it take for them to get here. My husband and I decided to take her home against her advice. And she said (I’ll never forget): “Roxy has gotten sicker since you brought her here (3 hrs ago), and that she might even die on her way home in the car.” She suggested we can take her to Emergency, and have them put her down. She said don’t wait too long. You don’t want her to die at home. After we brought her home, my husband who is a physician, thought to try to give her some steroids just to try something. WITHIN 1 hour she was walking!!! She had an appetite, and was interacting with us. Three days later, she is happy, playful and back to her normal personality. I still cannot get over the emotional and traumatic visit to AVS. I feel bad what the kids had to go through. So, at the end neurologist was not even there, which no one told us. The Attending Surgeon, Dr. Kara Fiore, who examined Roxy, never even came out to talk to us. Instead, we were dealing with a resident the whole time, but paying for a specialist. What bothered me the most was that pressure of putting your pet down right away, because they are closing and want to go home for the weekend. It was as if it was an old piece of furniture that you can just get rid off. She never said, why don’t you think about your options, and then let us know. It’s unfortunate that there is no alternative in Central Florida. People are forced to receive substandard care at absurd high prices.
