I volunteer at the Humane society and as I read the negative reviews,I wonder what all these negative people are doing for suffering animals. Yes, we are probably not perfect and I know that we are understaffed as most of our money goes towards caring for these animals. There are probably days where you will have to wait to long or other days where we will all be down because we lost an animal we loved or even other days where we can not take care of the "Humans" because we have to many animals to take care of..... and the list will go on. But, everyone that works or volunteers there has a beautiful heart and works to help other living creatures. SO... before criticising so easily, I wonder what you have done with your day....
We went there about a year ago and I will never forget this experience. We took our 3 yr old daughter to get a dog on her birthday and encountered an extremely rude older Caucasian woman named Arlene. She seemed very agitated at my daughter's excitement of getting a new pet, she actually asked if my daughter could leave the room several times. The first time I let her leave but afterwards I said no. I refused to allow her to prevent my daughter from bonding with her new pet, that we were paying for. When I asked to see the dogs medical records, she hesitated and told me I wouldn't understand them! She made this assumption without knowing my educational background or my career field. I was very upset that this woman turned this experience into a nightmare. Seeing my daughter crying on her birthday and being kicked out and prevented from bonding with her new pet was upsetting. I'm grateful that my husband has a lot of patience! He handled the situation and we love our dog!
What a Nightmare! It all started as we walked into the center. We were helped by a African American young man in the front, He was hands down the MOST PROFESSIONAL PERSON WITHIN THE WHOLE PLACE! Everyone else, old and young were unprofessional to a state of nauseum. Two witches particularly were the worst. The "leader or counselor", old white lady with her hair pulled back, then an even older lady with curly bleach blond hair made such a huge deal about our dog that it scared us so much we had to reconsider adopting him. However, we went against the young man who we encountered as we were viewing our dog as immediately told us that he was on hold (HUGE LIE) and we adopt our dog anyway. They tried as hard as they possibly could to discourage us from adopting the dog. We were perplexed as we are standing in a RESCUE center who DOESNT want us to rescue an animal. Oh let's not forget to mention the whispering that went on behind our back and reluctance to snap pictures of our new family member with us. If it wasn't for that young man in the front that whisked us away and helped, we wouldn't have out amazingly well mannered and humble dog that we have now. I WOULD NEVER GO HERE AGAIN!
I adopted my Chihuahua, Bailey, from there almost 3 years ago. I originally went in to look at a Schnauzer named Sally but unfortunately, she was too big to meet in-flight travel regulations. HSGM took into consideration the fact that I fly often, among many other things, and "matched" me up with my little Bailey girl. I was really impressed with how much they cared for the animals, their guidance when introducing me to the adoptables, and their thoroughness on educating me on her aftercare. I've also used their clinic for vaccinations. My Bailey Girl is one of the best decisions I've ever made and I owe that to HSGM.
